Job Description

Montgomery College invites qualified applicants to apply for the Dean position in the Applied Sciences and Technology department. The Dean of Applied Sciences and Technology provides visionary academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for a dynamic portfolio of applied science and technology programs, including Biotechnology, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Networking Technology. The division encompasses both credit-bearing academic programs and workforce-aligned training designed to prepare students for high-demand, rapidly evolving technical careers.

Reporting to senior academic leadership, the Dean ensures the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of programs; supports faculty and staff excellence; and advances student success through integrated academic and workforce pathways, strong industry partnerships, and innovative instructional practices.

Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and college leadership, the Dean aligns academic programs with regional and emerging workforce needs, advances stackable credentials and career pathways, and drives the development of programs that respond to technological advancement and employer demand.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Provide administrative and strategic leadership to department chairs, faculty, and staff, supporting short- and long-range planning, program development, and academic initiatives.
  • Ensure the rigor, relevance, and continuous improvement of applied science and technology programs.
  • Oversee curriculum development and program review for credit and workforce-oriented offerings, ensuring alignment with industry standards, emerging technologies, and labor market needs.
  • Lead exploration and development of new programs, certificates, and training opportunities in applied technology fields.
  • Advance stackable credentials and articulated pathways that support seamless movement from short-term training to certificates and degree programs.
  • Ensure laboratories, technical facilities, and instructional technologies support high-quality, hands-on learning.
  • Champion innovative instructional approaches, including experiential, project-based, and applied learning models.

Faculty & Staff Development

  • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate faculty, department chairs, and staff.
  • Encourage faculty engagement in professional development, industry collaboration, applied research, and instructional innovation.
  • Support grant-funded initiatives, partnerships, and applied research activities.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that values shared governance and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and institutional policies.

Student Success & Academic Pathways

  • Promote student engagement, retention, and completion across applied sciences and technology programs.
  • Support integrated academic and workforce pathways that prepare students for employment and continued education.
  • Encourage student participation in internships, apprenticeships, industry-sponsored projects, and experiential learning.
  • Collaborate with advising, career services, and student support teams to strengthen holistic student success initiatives.
  • Advance inclusive practices that support a diverse student population in applied technology fields.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Plans and administers the annual budget for the unit and ensures effective allocation of resources.
  • Authorizes and monitors expenditures to ensure responsible use of institutional and external funds.
  • Supports the pursuit and management of external funding through grants, contracts, and industry partnerships.
  • Oversees planning and investment in technical laboratories, equipment, and technology infrastructure.

External Relations & Partnerships

  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with employers, industry organizations, government agencies, and community partners.
  • Ensures programs remain aligned with evolving industry standards, technologies, and workforce needs.
  • Supports development of industry-recognized certifications, applied training opportunities, and employer-aligned credentials.
  • Promotes collaboration between academic programs and industry partners to strengthen career pathways and employment outcomes.
  • Represents the college in regional workforce initiatives, industry partnerships, and community engagement activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in an applied science, technology, engineering, information technology, or closely related field; doctorate or terminal degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of higher education leadership experience or equivalent managerial or leadership experience in a technology or applied science field.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in an applied science or technology discipline at the post-secondary level is preferred.
  • Experience supporting workforce-aligned programs, industry partnerships, or technical training initiatives is strongly preferred.
