Dean of Arts & Sciences
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Northland Pioneer College seeks an innovative leader committed to the mission, vision, and values of the College to serve as Dean of Arts and Sciences. The Dean, who reports directly to the Vice President for Learning and Student Services, has oversight of the following departments: Art, Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, English, Film and Digital Video, Geography, Geology, History, Honors Colloquia, Human Services, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Speech/Theatre/Film, and Sociology. Educator Preparation and College and Career Preparedness are subdivisions of the Arts & Sciences Division; the Dean assists the Associate Deans in overseeing those programs. The Dean also serves on various instructional and student service committees designed to assist with strategic planning for the institution.
The Dean is tasked with providing institutional leadership for instruction across the four campuses and five centers. The Dean leads the faculty and staff in providing high quality education and support for students. The Dean supports full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and dual credit faculty. The Dean has a responsibility to serve as a liaison with area high schools, affiliated institutions, professional organizations, and local, regional, and state agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Initiates the recruiting process for fulltime and adjunct faculty. Determines the teaching qualifications of prospective faculty (including dual credit) in consultation with department and program chairs. Supervises and evaluates faculty and staff within the division.
- Supervises Associate Dean of College and Career Preparation and Associate Dean of Educator Preparation Programs.
- Develops, modifies, and evaluates courses and programs in conjunction with faculty and other college personnel. Coordinates program review activities for programs within the division.
- Supervise the process of textbook and technology adoption for the Department.
- Assists with the development of specialized facilities for instructional programs.
- Develops the master audio/video class schedule for the entire college.
- Develops, proposes, and monitors the budget for departments within the division.
- Leads the division in assessing student academic achievement activities.
- Responds to community and partner needs for division courses and programs.
- Ensure maintenance of accurate student records and compliance with Registrar's Office deadlines.
- Participates on college committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
