Position Summary

As an Academic Dean, you will be at the forefront of shaping our academic direction and fostering a culture of innovation. Your role will be pivotal in providing strategic leadership, promoting academic excellence, and enhancing student success. This includes integrating the Academic Affairs and Workforce Development Division priorities and department Academic Program Portfolio into our strategic initiatives. By collaborating with faculty, staff, and the wider college community, you will advance our mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with our academic goals and objectives. You will make decisions related to resource allocation, effective implementation of organizational policies, and addressing long-term needs within your areas of responsibility. This role involves leading strategy formulation and ensuring alignment at the divisional level.

Provides strategic leadership to promote academic excellence through oversight of Associate Deans, ensuring high-quality curriculum and pedagogy via faculty evaluation and assessment processes, while also collaborating with the Teaching and Learning Center to support meaningful faculty professional development. Deans will also provide strategic vision for dual credit initiatives, partnering with the K12 Pathways and Rural Community Impact team to ensure high school partners have access to high-quality program pathways.

As a member of the Academic Leadership team and Leadership Council, you will contribute to key decisions and initiatives that shape the future of NWTC. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving our institution forward and empowering individuals to achieve their educational and career aspirations.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision and direction that utilizes innovation and creativity to maximize opportunities for improvement and growth for the department, division, and the college that align with strategic initiatives of the college.
  • Cultivate an organizational/team climate, which engages staff and faculty to live NWTC's values, develop and accomplish the strategic goals and objectives as it relates to the department, division, and the College.
  • Provide oversight for educational offerings and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing economic development, including K-12 initiatives, transfer opportunities, workforce development to meet the community's needs with a strong academic portfolio.
  • Define priorities, allocate resources, and secure funding to ensure the sustainability and vitality of program health that aligns with strategic plan and academic portfolio.
  • Prioritize, approve, and ensure alignment with institutional and departmental planning, budgeting, and resource allocation efforts to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Authorize the allocation of resources to uphold academic excellence and maintain a strong academic portfolio. This includes approving academic plans, departmental budgets, and fiscal strategies, ensuring their integration into the college budget.
  • Prioritize and implement programs within the approved budget framework, aligning with the strategic plan, operational needs, and capital requests.
  • Develops and recommends the operating and capital budget for the department and assumes responsibility for the management of the adopted budget for the current fiscal year.
  • Utilize enrollment management practices to develop and implement effective scheduling strategies.
  • Actively engage with internal, local, state, and national boards and committees to represent the institution, department academic portfolios and contribute to community development efforts.
  • Cultivate a culture of evidence-based practice by overseeing annual program reviews and assessment plan submissions.
  • Manage the human resource needs of the department including the selection, onboarding, retention, performance management, and development of employees, both direct and indirect reporting employees.
  • Prioritize external partnerships to enhance and expand workforce training programs, fostering connections between credit and non-credit learning experiences.
  • Utilize assessment data for course and program improvements to inform the process of academic portfolio management, fostering continuous improvement in curriculum and teaching practices.
  • Ensures academic excellence through leadership of Associate Deans, ensuring high quality curriculum and pedagogy through faculty evaluation, assessment, and working with the Teaching and Learning Center to ensure appropriate faculty development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

Master's degree required. In addition, at least one earned degree (Technical, Journeyman, Apprenticeship, Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, or higher) must be in Advanced Manufacturing, Skilled Trades, or a closely related field relevant to the programs overseen by this position. Minimum of three years of leadership experience with progressively increasing responsibilities demonstrating advancement in scope, complexity, or accountability. Two years of teaching experience in one of the fields supervised by this position, or equivalent relevant instructional or industry trainer experience. Preferred Qualifications and Work Experience

Seven years of leadership experience with progressively increasing responsibilities demonstrating advancement in scope, complexity, or accountability, in higher education (i.e., Academic Leadership-Department Chair, Program Director, etc.). Two years teaching experience in a community or technical college setting in one of the fields or related field supervised by this position.

  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, tools, or controls.
  • Visual and Auditory: Ability to read documents and communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Light Lifting: Capability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
