Position: Dean, College of Law

Location: American University of Iraq—Baghdad (AUIB)

Job Summary

AUIB is seeking a visionary academic leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Law. The Dean will provide strategic direction, foster academic excellence, and strengthen the college’s reputation in legal education. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), the Dean will play a crucial role in advancing legal scholarship, faculty development, student success, and external partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

• Lead the development and implementation of innovative legal education programs aligned with global best practices.
• Foster a strong culture of legal scholarship and research among faculty and students.

Strategic Planning & Administration

• Develop and execute strategic plans that align with AUIB’s vision for legal education, research, and community impact.
• Oversee budget management, resource allocation, and operational efficiency within the college.
• Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the college.

Faculty Development

• Recruit, mentor, and support faculty in their academic and professional growth.
• Evaluate faculty performance and drive continuous improvement in teaching, research, and service.

Student Success & Career Readiness

• Enhance student learning experiences and academic outcomes.
• Provide leadership for student organizations, moot court programs, and legal clinics.
• Ensure students have access to career development, networking, and internship opportunities.

Community Engagement & External Partnerships

• Build strategic partnerships with legal professionals, government agencies, and academic institutions.
• Strengthen the college’s national and international reputation in legal education.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Terminal degree (Ph.D or equivalent) in law.
• 5+ years of academic experience, preferably in legal education and administration.
• Deep understanding of both Common Law (Anglo-American) and Civil Law (European Continental) systems.
• U.S.-educated and trained law professionals preferred.
• Distinguished academic and professional record in law.
• Proven leadership experience in a law school or academic setting.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
