Job Description

Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of English, Social and Behavioral Sciences provides visionary leadership in support of teaching and learning for our students. This position leads, encourages, and supports the delivery of instruction and student support services in the following areas: Anthropology, English, English as a Second Language, Ethnic Studies/Gender Studies, History, Philosophy/Religious Studies, Political Science/Economics, Psychology, and Sociology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage, evaluate and coordinate academic subject areas and student services in accordance with legal requirements, district policies and sound instructional and student services principles and practices.
• Establish overall goals, objectives and plans; initiate and participate in overall program planning.
• Supervise and coordinate assigned curriculum planning and development.
• Perform the hiring, evaluation and retention of assigned faculty and staff.
• Prepare budgets and submit through appropriate channels for approval.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree from an accredited institution plus five years of achievement in management, supervision or leadership programs, departments or divisions within an institution of higher education.
