Responsibilities/Accountability:

  1. Acceptance of Missions: Dillard University is a historically Black institution that cultivates leaders who live ethically, think and communicate precisely, and act courageously to make the world a better place. The mission of Dillard University College of Nursing is to prepare caring, courageous future nurse leaders who are ethical, critical thinkers that communicate effectively and therapeutically respecting the diversity of people in all health care settings to improve the human condition.
  2. Is accountable to nursing approval bodies, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) and nursing accrediting organizations, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  3. Responsibilities include: Provide leadership in short- and long-term planning for the College of Nursing. Be responsible for the general administration of the College. Plan, in cooperation with faculty, the organization and functioning of the curriculum to insure the adequacy and the effectiveness of the College’s program of study. Assist in the recruitment of faculty. Recommend faculty for employment in the College of Nursing. Aid the University in the recruitment of students. Respond and make recommendations regarding the college’s budget received from the vice president for business and finance; assume responsibility for keeping the college's expenditures within the approved budget. Investigate the availability of and apply for grant funds. Evaluate teacher effectiveness. Recommend to the Vice President for Academic Affairs salary, rank, tenure, retention, and termination of employment in the College of Nursing. Facilitate the professional growth of faculty personnel within the College. Meet regularly with the Faculty and with nursing majors to discuss matters of importance. Serve as an ex-officio member of all College of Nursing standing committees. Enhance the overall public relations and developmental efforts of the academic unit.
  4. Assume other duties as outlined in the Dillard University Faculty Handbook and the College of Nursing Faculty Handbook and bylaws. Govern the Nursing unit in accordance with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing's full rules and regulations. Adhere to the standards of the College of Nursing accreditation agency.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing and an earned Doctorate in Nursing or related field. Progressive experience in nursing practice; experience in teaching at an institution of higher learning; and credentials of a professional nurse registered in the State of Louisiana. RN licensure in the State of Louisiana or compact licensure. Prior experience as a nursing education administrative or leadership role preferred.

Work Conditions

May require long hours sitting in front of a computer, walking across campus, and/or bending, stooping and lifting up to 20 lbs. The scope of the job frequently requires working in the evenings and on weekends.
