Dean of Students
Vincennes University is pleased to announce its search for a highly energetic, dedicated and experienced Student Affairs professional to serve as Dean of Students. The Dean of Students works cooperatively with the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs to create and maintain a positive campus environment. The Dean of Students provides direction and supervision to some of the Student Affairs offices that contribute to the educational goals of the institution, enhance student learning outside of the classroom and promote awareness of the world they live in. The Dean of Students will report to the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Foster a Collegial and Inclusive Culture: Contribute to a welcoming and professional environment in the Student Affairs division, maintaining high standards of effectiveness and professionalism while promoting a collegial atmosphere.
- Student Communication and Advocacy: Communicate University policies, announcements, and reminders to students, and work closely with Deans, faculty, and staff to support and advocate for students' academic, social, and professional development.
- Departmental Coordination and Oversight: Establish working relationships with key University departments such as University Police, Admissions, Financial Services, IT, and Academic Affairs. Oversee the judicial affairs process, including the hearing and appeals board, and provide support for academic probation and disqualification processes.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Provide supervision and mentorship for the Student Activities Office, Counseling Center, Parent and Family Services, and Diverse Abilities and Accommodations. Select and train members for the hearing and appeals board and chair the CARE team.
- Strategic Initiatives and Collaboration: Work with the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs to identify and promote strategic initiatives for student engagement, retention, and quality education. Collaborate on planning and budgeting for the Student Affairs division and the university.
- Event Coordination and Student Engagement: Coordinate key events such as Honors Convocation and Commencement Line Up, and build visibility and relationships with students through direct involvement in Residence Hall programming, student organizations, recreational sports, and dining activities.
- Committee Involvement and Professional Development: Serve on various committees, including Council on People, Access, and Culture (CPAC), TAPS, and Retention committees, and attend professional conferences to stay informed of best practices in Student Affairs.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership, Student Personnel, Student Affairs and Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.
- 5 years of progressive full-time leadership experience in more than 1 area of student life.
- Previous student conduct experience.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of current and emerging trends relating to promising practices in student affairs and student success, and a commitment to excellence.
- An active, energetic, and well-organized personality with a sense of humor and collegiality.
- A leadership philosophy that emphasizes an environment of accountability, collegiality, and open communication.
- Strong decision-making skills that demonstrate a sense of fairness, sensitivity, compassion, and objectivity.
- An ability to facilitate a positive campus culture and climate of accessibility and belonging.
- Personal and professional integrity to the highest degree.
- Familiar with Banner and Maxient.
