Description

Vincennes University is pleased to announce its search for a highly energetic, dedicated and experienced Student Affairs professional to serve as Dean of Students. The Dean of Students works cooperatively with the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs to create and maintain a positive campus environment. The Dean of Students provides direction and supervision to some the Student Affairs offices that contribute to the educational goals of the institution, enhance student learning outside of the classroom and promote awareness of the world they live in. The Dean of Students will report to the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs.

Required Qualifications:

The position requires a strong educational background and progressive professional experience.

  • Education: A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Higher Education Leadership, Student Personnel, Student Affairs and Higher Education, or Counseling.
  • Experience: 5 years of progressive full-time leadership experience in more than one area of student life.
  • Specific Experience: Previous experience with the student conduct experience.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Thorough knowledge of current and emerging trends in student affairs and student success.
    • Familiarity with systems like Banner and Maxient is preferred.
    • Strong decision-making skills demonstrating fairness and objectivity.
    • Commitment to fostering a campus culture of inclusion, accessibility, and diversity.
    • An active, energetic, well-organized personality with integrity and a collegial, accountable leadership philosophy.

Responsibilities:

The Dean oversees several critical functions, reporting directly to the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs.

  • Supervision & Leadership: Provides direction and mentorship for key Student Affairs offices:
    • Student Activities Office
    • Counseling Center
    • Parent and Family Services
    • Diverse Abilities and Accommodations
  • Student Conduct & Welfare: Oversees the judicial affairs process, including the hearing and appeals board, and supports academic probation/disqualification processes. Chairs the CARE team.
  • Strategic Planning: Works with the Assistant Provost on strategic initiatives for student engagement, retention, and quality education, including collaboration on planning and budgeting.
  • Campus Engagement: Coordinates key events like Honors Convocation and Commencement Line Up. Builds visibility through direct involvement in Residence Hall programming, student organizations, recreational sports, and dining activities.
  • Communication & Advocacy: Serves as a primary communicator of University policies to students and advocates for students' academic, social, and professional development with faculty and staff.

Required Skills and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Leadership, Student Personnel, Student Affairs and Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • 5 years of progressive full-time leadership experience in more than 1 area of student life. - Previous experience with the student conduct experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current and emerging trends relating to promising practices in student affairs and student success and a commitment to excellence
  • An active, energetic and well-organized personality with a sense of humor and collegiality.
  • A leadership philosophy that emphasizes an environment of accountability, collegiality and open communication.
  • Strong decision-making skills that demonstrate a sense of fairness, sensitivity, compassion, and objectivity.
  • An ability to facilitate a campus culture and climate of inclusion, accessibility, belonging and authentic commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and equality.
  • Personal and professional integrity in the highest degree.
  • Familiar with Banner and Maxient.

Physical Demands: Normal physical demands for successful work in a normal office environment.
