GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Dean of the School of Engineering & Construction Technologies, reporting directly to the Vice Provost, serves as the senior academic leader of the School. This role involves strategic leadership of the School's personnel, resources, facilities, and program offerings. The Dean oversees all aspects of administration, planning, supervision, personnel, budgeting, operations, curriculum, and resource development. Additionally, the Dean is a member of the University's Academic Council, representing the School and institution among their constituencies. Responsibilities also include short and long-term goal setting, alignment with institutional goals and policies, faculty and staff development and evaluation, curriculum management, budget oversight, personnel matters, scheduling, and attendance.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the active engagement of School and institutional stakeholders in evaluating existing and potential programs and services, considering current and emerging state and national trends.
- Ensure the achievement and maintenance of appropriate specialized accreditations and support institutional accreditation initiatives.
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and development of faculty and academic staff in alignment with School and institutional policies, practices, and strategic priorities.
- Foster a collegial and positive work environment to enhance morale.
- Demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership and support for the School's programs, services, students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate the collaborative development and implementation of short- and long-term strategic priorities, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Advance the fiscal health of the School through effective resource utilization and the pursuit of external funding.
- Provide leadership in student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping for all School interests.
- Monitor and oversee the management of School assets and facilities.
- Ensure safe work and learning environments.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with alumni and industry representatives in related workforce disciplines and sectors.
- Promote and support academic innovation and excellence.
- Represent the School and University in professional and community organizations and activities.
- Encourage and engage in collaborations with internal and external entities to advance the School, OSUIT, and their stakeholders.
- Serve as an active member of the University's Academic Council, Administrative Council, and other assigned committees.
- Balance responsibilities as a leader within the School and OSUIT.
- Coordinate and communicate School activities with Academic Affairs, Fiscal Affairs, Marketing & Communications, the OSU Foundation, and other relevant units.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as needed to meet the needs of the School and OSUIT.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
- Should possess the credentials necessary to qualify as a faculty member for one of the School's programs; graduate degree(s) highly preferred. Individuals with alternate combinations of credentials and/or experience may be considered.
Experience:
- A history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in collaborative management and leadership; experience in higher education administration preferred.
- Postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success in collaborating with various constituencies.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to plan, organize and fulfill complex initiatives.
- Knowledge of and experience in working with technology.
- Ability to research and interpret federal, state and institutional policies.
- Understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing higher education; comprehension of land-grant colleges and universities preferred.
- Ability to effectively engage community and industry leaders and alumni.
- Ability to maintain high standards of work, initiative, commitment, ethics, professional responsibility and judgment.
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative data analysis, budgeting and reporting.
- Superior interpersonal skills-including the ability to effectively recognize and resolve complex problems in a constructive manner.
Communication Skills:
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, exercise decorum in all interactions with stakeholders, and be able to effectively recognize and mitigate conflict.
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Travel required.
- Normal office physical environment; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
