About the Opportunity
Supported in part by a generous endowment, TSE is a postgraduate academic unit at NTHU with a focus on the complex challenges at the intersection of economics and politics. With English as the medium of instruction and a growing international faculty and student body, TSE is committed to fostering an inclusive, globally-engaging academic environment that is rooted in interdisciplinary rigor and public relevance.
With its current base in Hsinchu, the heart of Taiwan’s high-tech and semiconductor industry, and a new campus underway in Taipei, the political and cultural center of Taiwan, TSE occupies a unique position and offers a rare opportunity for the new Dean to shape the School for years to come.
Position Description and Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the President of NTHU, the Dean serves as the academic, administrative, and strategic leader of TSE. The role includes:
- Strategic Leadership & Vision Development: Setting school-wide priorities aligned with TSE and NTHU’s institutional mission; growing TSE’s international presence; and advancing long-term development planning, including interdisciplinary initiatives and global partnerships.
- Academic Administration & Faculty Affairs: Oversee academic programs, and faculty recruitment and development.
- External Engagement & Advancement: Building relationships with government, industry, foundations, and alumni; resource mobilization; representing TSE within the broader higher education landscape in Asia and globally.
Qualifications
- A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in economics, political science, or a related field.
- Academic achievements warranting a tenured appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
- Demonstrated success in academic leadership and administration.
- Experience in international collaboration.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills in multicultural settings.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Mandarin is welcomed but not required.
