Delivering efficient buildings, efficiently (Ref: ABCE-EBE-26)
About the Project
Become a critical actor for change to deliver high performing buildings for future generations.
The construction sector turns over more than 10trillion USD worldwide, and employees 10% of the global working population. Delivering the built environment is a challenging combination of technology deployment, planning and management. Once built, challenges over energy security, equitable access to energy, and environmental sustainability become critical components in the health and wellbeing of populations.
In fact, construction is not just about delivering new buildings, but also retrofitting existing buildings, which will necessitate a paradigm shift for an entire industry and we have a “once in history” opportunity to transform lives as we transform buildings. The health, wellbeing and productivity of our society necessitates buildings that provide year-round thermal comfort, good indoor air quality, natural light, fire safety, and security. Buildings must be designed and retrofitted to have significantly reduced energy demands while remaining affordable to purchase and operate. They must serve an ageing population, support a significant shift to home working, nurture the young, and provide a sanctuary for people in need of healthcare.
Your research with us could generate significant change. Come and study with our multi-disciplinary teams, whether you focus on delivery and planning using the latest AI-data driven methods, whether you want to improve financial control of budling procurement, or whether you want to develop better strategies and understanding of building energy performance once the building is in use. Supported by our world known research groups around building energy and construction management, whether your research interest s are supported by our laboratory facilities to support material research, or whether you need high performance computing, what you study will make a difference whether it is: improving construction productivity; AI and digital transformation in construction an infrastructure; circular economy and sustainability; sustainable, resilient and healthy buildings.
