Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We have multiple opportunities for individuals to join us as Demonstrators in the areas of Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Design. These roles are sessional assistant casual positions where the hours are set to meet the department needs to cover laboratory supervision and other tasks.

Duties will vary depending on the papers a demonstrator is assigned to. You will typically involve assisting in laboratories, supervising tests, testing and correcting teaching material and marking. Demonstrators may be involved in tutorials and small group or one-on-one consulting with students. Demonstrators may also be involved in outreach activities with school students either on campus or at a school. Other duties may be specified as required.

Employment is on an hourly basis on a schedule of hours to be arranged. The hourly wage for this role will be in the range of $25.75 to $29.36 per hour based on relevant skills and experience.

You will be friendly, courteous, patient, and able to communicate well with others from a range of backgrounds. You will also possess the appropriate knowledge and skills for the areas they will be assisting in. Applicants will normally be enrolled at the University of Waikato, and generally in the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.

The Division of STEM comprises Au Reikura School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Te Kura Mata-Ao School of Engineering, and Te Aka Mātutatua School of Science. The School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences comprises a number of academic programmes including Mathematics, Statistics/Data Analytics, Computer Science and Software Engineering. The School offers a range of qualifications at undergraduate, post-graduate and professional training levels.
