Dental Hygiene Program Director
Job Description
Under minimal supervision, oversees Dental Hygiene Program includes clinical and didactic portions, accreditation, budget, and administrative needs of program and college.
Required Qualifications
- Masters or higher degree or current enrollment in Masters or higher degree program with a minimum 50% program completion at the time of hire from a regionally accredited institution
- Dental Hygiene Licensure in the State of Tennessee
- A graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies
- Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- The equivalent of three years full-time experience in dental hygiene
- Minimum of two years experience as an instructor in a CODA-accredited program
- Experience with CODA Accreditation
- Knowledge of Blackboard online format
Job Duties
- Dental Hygiene Program development for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
- Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited dental hygiene courses following Lincoln Memorial University and CODA standards
- Develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives; evaluates students progress in attaining goals and objectives
- Establishes, measures, and evaluates program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success
- Correlation of clinical education with didactic education using approved curriculum format
- Periodic revision of course materials and manuals concurrent with Lincoln Memorial University standards and CODA standards
- Maintains Commission on Dental Accreditation; knowledge of accreditation policies and procedures
- Maintains assurance of effective program operations
- Manages ongoing program assessment
- Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares/plans budget requests
- Attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences
- Teaches dental hygiene courses in a classroom/lab/field environment that closely simulates the industry’s environment while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field
- Evaluation and advisement of students in a didactic/clinical setting
- Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues
- Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the discipline area
- Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts
- Requires strong computer skills, communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population
- Position may require committee and project assignments, other duties as assigned, and day/evening/distance learning classes and activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
