Dental Laboratory Technician Supervisor
Job Summary
Supervise all aspects of dental laboratory activities. Responsible for overall organization, employee utilization, and general operation of the dental laboratory. Ensure that employees comply with AU policies and regulations. Evaluate employees and provide advice, counsel, and disciplinary action as required. Perform annual performance appraisals for employees in coordination with department managers. Fabricate all types of precision fixed dental prosthetic restorations for students, residents, and faculty members at the Dental College of Georgia.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
- SUPERVISION: Supervise all aspects of dental laboratory activities. Responsible for overall organization, employee utilization, and general operation of the lab. Ensure that employees comply with MCG policies and regulations.
- EVALUATE AND ADVISE: Evaluate employees and provide advice, counsel, and disciplinary action as required. Perform annual MCG performance appraisals in coordination with the department chairman.
- QUALITY CONTROL AND COMPLIANCE: Monitor quality control of all aspects of lab activities and products. Ensure prostheses are fabricated to the highest quality in compliance with work authorization. Employ the Lab Manager program to monitor progress and employee effort.
- MICROSCOPIC TECHNOLOGY: Using microscopic technology to ensure the highest level of margin integrity, design and fabricate metal and porcelain fused to metal single and multi-unit dental prostheses as prescribed by work authorization to include waxing, investing, casting, porcelain application, finishing, and polishing. Using microscopic technology to ensure the highest level of margin integrity, design and fabricate all-ceramic single and multi-unit dental prostheses as prescribed by work authorization to include CADCAM scanning, designing, milling, finishing, and polishing.
- OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization or Dental Laboratory Technician certification with 10-15 years of experience of high quality laboratory operations and or service training; above average technical ability and a high level of productivity are essential; working knowledge of fixed laboratory equipment and materials, ability to operate and perform preventive maintenance of dental equipment and machinery used for the manufacture/fabrication of dental appliances; knowledge of dental anatomy, tooth morphology, and anatomical structure; excellent eye-hand coordination; ability to comply with OSHA & HIPPA standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Dental Technician (CDT) certification; exceptional technical and artistic abilities; exceptionally high level of productivity.

Comprehensive knowledge of legacy and digital dental laboratory technology.
SKILLS
Excellent psychomotor, mechanical, and computer abilities and skills.
ABILITIES
Maintain confidentiality. Performs primary procedures in the fabrication and repair of fixed dental prostheses. Designs and fabricates porcelain fused to metal and all-ceramic crowns and fixed partial dentures. Perform quality control procedures. Inspects all completed work for conformity to the dentist's prescription, quality of workmanship, and artistic appearance. Perform quality control procedures. Establishes work priorities, organizes work schedules, assigns duties, and instructs subordinates in work techniques and procedures. Determines personnel requirements, prepares and conducts training programs. Supervises operational maintenance programs of laboratory equipment.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Pay Band: B12. Salary: Minimum $62,300/annually. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Conditions of Employment
