Department Administrator
Position Summary
Rutgers University-Camden's Student Academic Success department seeks a dynamic Department Administrator, reporting to the director of operations for the unit. This role will be responsible for managing administrative support for the Division of Student Academic Success, comprised of the Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Success, Office of Retention, Center for Learning and Student Success, Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), the Career Advancement Center, Office of Scholar Development and Fellowship Advising, and the Student Success Coach Office. Additionally, the Department Administrator hires, trains, and supervises administrative student employees. The Department Administrator must thrive and excel in a fast-paced, high-student traffic environment and provide critical support to students and staff.
The Department Administrator manages the administrative support for the Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Success and the Executive Director for Student Academic Success, including calendar management, expense preparation and filing, preparation and dissemination of information, report preparation and analysis, special projects, and general communications. They will work consistently with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the unit.
The Department Administrator provides oversight, facilitation, and supervision of relevant Rutgers policy interpretation; purchasing, personnel, space, and facilities planning; major event design, promotion, and implementation; budget tracking; and supports standard operating and business processes. They must resolve a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the unit and with a comprehensive understanding of administration/office management in accordance with management principles, applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures. Interpret, communicate, and implement policies and practices for the differing needs of each department. The Department Administrator establishes performance standards, conducts evaluations, and has the authority to hire and fire student staff. Works independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results. They must perform professional work that requires general knowledge in one or more fields of management/administration and a solid understanding, use, and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, terminology, and applied bases in the area of specialization.
Minimum Education and Experience
Must possess a bachelor's degree in higher education administration, public administration, management, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Equipment Utilized
MS Office Suite, internet, Teams, Smartsheet, computer competency in reading and evaluating spreadsheets, document processing, databases, student information systems, and other computer-based platforms including Rutgers systems such as HCM, Cornerstone, Marketplace, Concur, PeopleSoft, EAB/Navigate, etc.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Meets all deadlines as indicated by the supervisor. Administrative tasks are accomplished carefully and thoroughly, with appropriate questions asked when necessary to ensure that the job is done efficiently. Demonstrates a working knowledge of university policies and procedures.
Salary
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.
