Department Chair and Non-Tenure-Track Faculty, Nursing (Open Rank)
Position Summary
The School of Education and Health Sciences seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced faculty and student-centered Chairperson for the Department of Nursing. This is a 12-month appointment open rank faculty position, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, along with exceptional skills in strategic planning, faculty development, and interprofessional collaboration. The Chairperson of the Department of Nursing will serve as a dynamic and visionary academic leader, responsible for overseeing the administration, continuous improvement, and academic excellence supporting the School’s graduate nursing programs, including the implementation of the recently developed Master’s Entry to Nursing Practice (MENP) program.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior academic and administrative leader of the Department of Nursing.
- Support faculty professional growth, workload, scholarship, recruitment, and evaluation.
- Fiscal oversight of the departmental operational budget.
- Teach didactic and clinical graduate nursing courses.
- Develop, revise, and implement curriculum consistent with AACN Essentials and CCNE standards.
- Support student success through academic advising.
- Maintain clinical certification and licensure.
Qualification Standards
Education: Earned doctoral degree in nursing or a closely related field (PhD, DNP, DNSc, EdD); Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program.
Licensure & Certification: Active, unencumbered Illinois RN license; Certified Nurse Educator, preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years of leadership experience in higher education, within a nursing school; A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service in nursing education; Experience and knowledge in curriculum development and accreditation processes.
