Research Associate (Postdoc) (m/f/d) Full-time employment limited to up to 4 years Salary group 13 TV-L FU Reference: 12-21/2025

Application deadline: June 16, 2025

The "Neural Dynamics of Visual Cognition" research group within Prof. Dr. Radoslaw Cichy's Neurocognitive and General Psychology department is seeking to fill a qualified postdoctoral position with teaching obligations (according to the LVVO) for a limited period of up to four years.

Our research group investigates how the human brain transforms visual impressions from the retina into behaviorally guiding representations of the external world. The focus is on research into visual object recognition and its interaction with other cognitive mechanisms such as language and memory.

We use an interdisciplinary approach that combines elements of cognitive psychology (e.g., behavioral measurements), neuroscience (especially neuroimaging, fMRI/EEG), and computational modeling (deep neural networks). We use multivariate analysis methods (machine learning, representational similarity analysis) and encoding models for this purpose.

Area of responsibility:

The position is open to all topics in the field of visual cognition. This includes, in particular, the current and planned research focuses of the working group, but is not limited to them. These are:

- Research into the development of visual representations in humans from infancy to adulthood

- Deep neural network-based encoding models of the human visual system based on large-scale neuroimaging data (fMRI/EEG, precision neuroscience)

- Advanced analyses of the structure of visual representations (e.g., dimensionality, topology).

The role involves the independent development and implementation of research projects in the field of visual cognition - as well as teaching (according to LVVO).

You can expect to work in an international, interdisciplinary team that is closely networked both nationally and internationally.

You have the opportunity to habilitate.

Requirements:

- Completed university degree (Master) and doctorate in cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology or a related field

Desired:

- Excellent results in the degrees

- Excellent knowledge of visual neuroscience, demonstrated by publications

- Extensive experience with the collection and analysis of data using imaging methods (M/EEG, fMRI)

- Very good experience with the use of complex analysis methods for fMRI or EEG data (e.g. decoding, representation similarity analysis, modeling using deep neural networks)

- Very good programming skills in Python or Matlab

- English language skills C1

- Experience in the guidance and supervision of students
