Deputy Director, Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute (LAHRI)
Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures
Open to internal members of academic staff within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures
Workload remission, 0.4fte, 3 years from 1 August 2025
Do you have the ability to contribute to the development and implementation of the strategy for research and innovation within the Faculty? Are you looking for a challenging leadership position and are you passionate about supporting staff to achieve academic excellence in an international and interdisciplinary context?
LAHRI aims to develop and celebrate cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research in the arts and humanities across and beyond the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. It works with academic staff to develop research projects and apply for research funding; generates, facilitates and sustains research collaborations; builds capacity through researcher development activities; and fosters a culture of inclusive partnership working. As well as offering bespoke support to individuals and supporting groups of researchers to respond to external funding schemes and calls, LAHRI runs a series of internal funding schemes, including a Research Boost scheme, a pump-priming scheme, and several schemes which support impact-led partnership-working.
LAHRI hosts two cohorts of visiting postdoctoral fellows each year in its premises in Baines Wing and manages further fellowship schemes in collaboration with the Centre for African Studies (LUCAS) and the library. LAHRI works closely with centres, institutes and networks across the University, especially the Digital Creativity and Cultures Hub (DCCH), the Centre for Practice Research in the Arts (CePRA), the Cultural Institute, and the Leeds Institute for Societal Futures (LISF).
Current strategic priorities include: enabling academics to adapt to changing funding landscapes; promoting collaborative research and partnership-working; increasing researcher visibility; supporting academics at all career stages to explore new approaches to research, engagement and dissemination; enhancing the research culture of the Faculty.
Working principally with the Director, Pro-Dean for Research and Innovation, LAHRI Manager, Faculty Impact Development Manager, and colleagues in the Research and Innovation Service (RIS), the Deputy Director will play a key role in advancing and implementing the LAHRI’s mission and vision.
