The Assistant Professor's primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the integrity of course and instructional programs, and to ensure that their delivery is in alignment with the University mission and vision for the student experience. As such, faculty are responsible for creating an academic atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration for individual dignity. Faculty members may be asked to aid in the development of curriculum in the residential and distance education environments, as well as engage in research/scholarship or creative activity that varies depending upon the expectations of their respective college or school and any additional activities involving service to students and their professional discipline.
The Deputy Director of the Center for Excellence in Criminal Justice will be responsible for the organization and communication necessary for the quality, expansion, sustainability, and oversight of all COE programs and support the mission set forth by the Director. The position will also require maintaining collaborative partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies to develop comprehensive education and training programs that prepare law enforcement professionals, students, and civilians to meet the challenges of modern policing and criminal justice, promoting ethical practices, leadership, and public safety.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Program Development & Oversight
- Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs, workshops, and seminars.
- Oversee academic programs, including curriculum development and faculty collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with assessment standards and requirements set forth from the Department of Criminal Justice Services.
Community & Industry Engagement
- Build partnerships with public safety agencies, policymakers, criminal justice advocates, and non-profit organizations to broaden the training cadre, improve curriculum development and ensure effective collaboration.
- Serve as a public spokesperson for the center on criminal justice related matters and ensure effective management of students volunteer and internship opportunities to supplement academic coursework.
- Develop and implement the Center's strategic goals of promoting justice, compassion, and ethical leadership, all of which are deeply rooted in our Christian values at LU.
Research & Scholarship
- Promote experiential learning through internships, service-learning, and practical field research.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for students and those attending Center programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Public Administration, or other related disciplines
Other Qualifications
- 15 or more years in public safety, with preference considered for experience in positions of leadership.
- Demonstrated strengths in teaching and mentoring.
- Organizational skills that facilitate the completion of assignments and tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and online Learning Management Systems
