Deputy Head of the Learning Community (Year 4)

Job Description:

About This Opportunity

In 2023, the UQ Medical School established eight geographically based Learning Communities, four of which are within the Rural Clinical School. These Learning Communities bring together students, academics, clinical teachers, and professional staff to create a supportive home where students learn from each other and are empowered to thrive as they progress through the MD program.

The Deputy Head of the Learning Community (Year 4) will play a key role in shaping and enhancing the Learning Community environment. This role focuses on fostering inclusivity and a strong sense of belonging for both students and staff, with a primary emphasis on creating a supportive space that enables medical students to flourish personally, academically, and professionally. The successful candidate is expected to commence in the role on 1 July 2026.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Act as an effective and professional role model while providing high-quality academic leadership for Year 4 learning and assessment, including academic guidance, remediation, pastoral care, career support, and extension activities across the Learning Community.
  • Serve as an educational advisor and clinical coach, contributing to face-to-face clinical teaching and assessment to support students’ professional identity, clinical knowledge, and skills.
  • Assist in coordination of the Year 4 MD course, including oversight of clinical immersion experiences and tutorials, engagement with centrally delivered learning, collaboration with external partners, staff training, and monitoring of student progress and reviews.

This is a teaching focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.
