Design and Development of Next-Generation Vascular Stents
About the Project
A PhD position is available for a highly motivated candidate to contribute to the development of an innovative class of vascular stents with improved clinical performance.
This project focuses on the design and engineering of advanced stent architectures aimed at enhancing hemodynamic performance and improving patient outcomes. The research will investigate how novel design strategies can reduce restenosis and thrombus formation, with the long-term goal of minimizing or eliminating the need for prolonged anticoagulant therapies.
The project is interdisciplinary and will involve:
- Advanced Design & Optimisation of stent geometries
- Additive Manufacturing (AM) for fabrication of complex, high-precision structures
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to analyse blood flow characteristics and vascular interaction
- Experimental Validation, including flow-based testing and mechanical characterisation
The successful candidate will work within a collaborative research environment at the interface of biomechanics, biomaterials, and advanced manufacturing, contributing to impactful developments in cardiovascular medical devices.
Candidate Requirements:
- A strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Experience or interest in CFD, design for additive manufacturing, or experimental mechanics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- A proactive and research-driven mindset
Applications are encouraged from candidates eager to work at the forefront of biomedical engineering innovation. The position will remain open until filled.
