Job Description
Position Summary
The Development Officer will be responsible for a dual portfolio of major gifts and scholarship program. Constructs strategy for and leads the execution of major gift fundraising, new scholarships, campaigns, events, and stewardship activities that create meaningful connections and build donor relationships with the college to secure, retain, and grow annual support.
The Development Officer portfolio will include creating value-added community engagement and scholarship development within the BMCC District. Maintains the Award Spring scholarship management system. Assists in the coordination of scholarship, annual Foundation, and alumni relations events. Implements a social media campaign and strategy as directed by the Foundation Executive Director. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy outlined in the BMCC Foundation Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
Essential Functions
- Develop strategies for the Foundation's major gifts and scholarship programs, including campaigns related to employee giving, direct mail, electronic/online giving, fundraising events, capital appeals, and other annual giving strategies.
- Assist the Executive Director in executing Foundation fundraising special events, including identification of event purpose, goals, budget, sponsorship levels, acquisition, promotion, logistics, day-of-event program, and follow up.
- Measure progress against benchmarks and suggests program adjustments to the Executive Director regularly.
- Assist the Executive Director in building and managing the development and major gifts and scholarship program budgets, maximizing return on investment in all activities to ensure responsible and effective utilization of financial resources.
- Assist the Executive Director with the major gifts and scholarship program including the major gifts and scholarship committees, coordinating the process of identifying and tracking major gifts and new scholarship opportunities.
- Assists with scholarship awards and targeted cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and scholarship.
- Assists with the development of fundraising and friend-raising events (benefits, receptions, reunions, and the like).
- Prepares strategic communication via e-newsletters, web pages, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other media vehicles as appropriate.
- Assist with the development of a stewardship plan for donor recognition. Prepare timely outreach, mailings, calls, and suggest events related to acknowledgment beyond the expected tax letter. Engage Foundation staff, college leadership, and volunteer leadership in execution as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the BMCC Director of Marketing & Communications to create marketing materials and content that align with the case for support and manage the production of major gifts and scholarship materials across a variety of media including print, digital and social media channels, ensuring projects meet required timelines and specifications. Includes communication and materials for fundraising and engagement efforts, such as the annual report, newsletters, donors and prospect electronic and print appeals, and website content.
- Maintain the scholarship management system (SMS) by providing updated application cycles, soliciting reviewers, preparing reports of donor engagement and ensure appeals and event attendance are properly recorded in the database, keeping meticulous records of scholarship awards, and provide monthly reports used to analyze scholarship potential growth strategies.
- Attend Foundation Board Meetings, committee meetings, and special events. Identify donor to recognize at Board meetings and invite to attend. Serve on Foundation standing committees and provide leadership for the major gifts and scholarship committees.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to use correct grammar, spelling, and syntax.

- Develop familiarity with BMCC programs, services, and the role and mission BMCC serves in the community.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and other software, as well as a variety of telecommunications equipment.
- Organize and follow through to complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of GiveCampus platform and/or experience with crowdfunding software preferred.
- Ability to generate and analyze reports using appropriate software.
- Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.
- Must have impeccable and polished writing skills with an eye for detail.
- Deliver services in a fast-paced and customer-service focused environment.
- High professional and ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential information.
Required Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Philanthropy, or equivalent. The College recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal higher education and paid employment. Applicants who do not meet minimum qualifications but present other qualifications or experience equivalent to those required will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience with Blackbaud's The Raisers Edge, or Donor Perfect, or other Customer Resource Management (CRM) software program, highly desired. Three to five years of fundraising experience, strongly preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
This is a full-time position with excellent benefits including: Medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and long term disability insurance; Paid holidays; Sick leave; Vacation; and Tuition waiver for employee and qualified dependents.
