Salary Range: $138,700.00 - $148,600.00
*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices

Position Summary

Functions as a highly experienced sonographer, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, and is responsible for the overall daily management of the sonography practice. The role and responsibilities extend beyond those of a Lead Sonographer and are focused on providing leadership to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. Activities are performed in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Functions as the clinical, technical leader/expert in sonography imaging within the practice. Provides leadership in the daily operation of the sonography services within the practice.
  • Responsible for staffing selection, addressing performance issues, and staff terminations in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership and direction in developing new workflows for patient care services. Responsible for workload scheduling. Responsible for the creation, oversight, and implementation of scanning protocols and quality control activities.
  • Develops and manages budget(s) and operational reports.
  • Provides education and training to sonographers in the utilization of new equipment features/benefits and scanning techniques.
  • Ensures staff professional education requirements are met and maintained, including applicable licensure, certification and/or accreditation standards. Ensures staff compliance with clinical/operational protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the mentoring and professional development of sonography staff. Provides oversight for staff continuing education program(s) to ensure that professional knowledge, expertise and skills are maintained.
  • Provides oversight of the system management for the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Provides technical, image quality and accuracy oversight for the assessment of sonography examinations.
  • Functions in full capacity as diagnostic sonographer, fullfilling associated patient-care responsibilities.
  • Provides re-scanning support to diagnostic sonographers, when appropriate.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and practice policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that sonography examination results meet practice standards for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation.
  • Works with appropriate staff to ensure quality patient care. Carries out Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures within the practice.
  • Assists with the education and training of sonography students and physician residents. Provides oversight of clinical placement for student sonographers.
  • Ensures appropriate ultrasound equipment is available and provides opportunities for staff input during the equipment selection and purchasing process.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience

Bachelor's of Science (BS) in healthcare, healthcare management or imaging.

Extensive sonography education, training and experience in the specialty area(s) to be performed.

A minimum of ten years academic hospital based experience. Approximately 2 years of supervisory experience.

BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association, is preferred.

*For posiitons within Medicine/Cardiology, prospective candidates must demonstrate successful completion of at least 2 registries with 100% competency and independent performance of all exams in those specialty areas performed in the laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership competencies, including ability to motivate staff, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work effectively as a member of a team, in a busy, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs used for documentation activities and report generation.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Sonographer certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), and/or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Where available, advanced sonographer certification should be acquired.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Must be able to move 350 pound wheeled equipment as needed.

Ability to travel to various work locations and work variable shifts as needed.
