Role Summary
Reporting to the Executive Associate Commissioner, the Director/Assistant Commissioner, Sport Conference Operations maintains the effective administration of WCC sports, officiating programs, competition schedules, operational systems, championships, and special events. This position serves as a primary point of coordination among Conference staff, member institutions, officiating partners, technology providers, coaches, and other stakeholders. The Director/Assistant Commissioner maintains accurate schedules and sport data, administers officiating systems and processes, monitors compliance with Conference operating policies, and helps implement technologies that support competition and officiating. The Director will also serve as a sport administrator for assigned sports, contribute to the planning and execution of WCC championships and meetings.
Primary Responsibilities
Conference Operations
• Serve as the primary or secondary administrator for assigned WCC sports.
• Coordinate regular-season administrative matters, including schedules, operational policies, meetings, communications, and issue resolution.
• Maintain Conference schedules and related data across scheduling, statistics, officiating, and other operational platforms.
• Administer schedule-change requests and ensure approved changes are communicated accurately and promptly.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with coaches, administrators, officiating coordinators, and other sport stakeholders.
• Assist with logistics for Conference governance meetings, coaches’ meetings, and other special events.
• Support senior leadership and ongoing review of Conference sport policies and operating procedures.
Officiating Administration
• Administer officiating operations through RefQuest and other designated platforms.
• Manage officiating agreements, onboarding documentation, background-check processes, system access, and related records.
• Support officiating coordinators and institutional administrators with assignments, reporting, communications, and issue resolution.
• Assist with officiating payment and reconciliation processes, as assigned.
• Identify opportunities to improve officiating systems, documentation, and service to member institutions and officials.
Competition Technology, Video, and Data
• Oversee compliance with Conference video-exchange policies and procedures.
• Coordinate instant-replay operations, documentation, vendor relationships, and institutional implementation.
• Support the implementation and administration of courtside, bench, and officiating technologies.
• Monitor system performance and adoption, troubleshoot operational issues.
• Analyze sport and operational data to identify trends, evaluate compliance, and support Conference planning.
• Help document and improve technology-enabled workflows across Conference operations.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience.
• At least five years of experience in collegiate athletics, sport administration, event management, conference operations, officiating administration, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder groups.
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Clear and professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Ability to manage scheduling, officiating, event-management, and data platforms.
• Ability to analyze information, identify discrepancies, and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with sound judgment.
Preferred
• Experience in an NCAA Division I athletics department or conference office.
• Experience with RefQuest or a comparable officiating-management platform.
• Experience maintaining competition schedules or administering sport-management systems.
• Familiarity with instant replay, video exchange, statistics, or competition technology.
• Experience supporting collegiate championships or other complex sporting events.
• Experience using data to improve operational processes and decision-making.
Travel Requirements
20 – 30 % of travel
Work Location
Hybrid with San Bruno, CA base.
Salary
75,000-100,000, commensurate with experience.
