Director- Degree Completion Team
This position is 100% onsite at the University of Houston- Main Campus.
Responsible for the operations of a large program or center at the university. Oversees staff, budgets, and projects.
- Oversees a large department, program or center.
- Manages budget and engages in strategic planning to ensure all goals are met.
- Hires and directs the activities of staff.
- Resolves personnel issues as they arise.
- Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policy development.
- Implements new programs and projects and monitors ongoing activities of department or center.
- Reviews department policies and processes and implements improvements as needed.
- Represents department or center to internal and external constituents.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.
Additional Duties: Oversees day to day operations of the Degree Completion Team within the Office of Retention and Graduation Initiatives to ensure strategies are executed consistently and effectively. Translates institutional goals into actionable priorities, leads cross college coordination, and ensures data informed interventions support student persistence and timely completion.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following:
- Experience in higher education student success, retention, advising, or academic support environments
- Strong service leadership skills with an emphasis on collaboration, responsiveness, and accountability
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage complex workflows across multiple initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including interpreting student data and trends
- Ability to interpret and apply academic and administrative policies fairly and consistently
- Effective interpersonal skills to engage faculty, staff, and campus partners at all levels
- Ability to supervise professional staff and support their development
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data informed decision making
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coordinating initiatives across colleges or academic units
- Experience using student success platforms such as Navigate and student information management systems such as PeopleSoft
- Experience higher education student success, retention, advising, or academic support environments
