About the Role

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Financial Planning and Operations, the Director, Financial Reporting and Training (Director) is responsible for the preparation of the internal management reporting and all external compliance financial reporting for UVic and its 12 consolidated entities including endowment and pensions. The Director oversees the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely, and relevant financial statements and reports for both internal stakeholders and external users to support informed financial decision making. The Director ensures the integrity of the university’s general ledger, maintaining proper classifications, categories, and balances to reflect accurate financial information. In addition, the Director provides leadership in financial training, offering guidance and expertise to all university financial statement users. The position plays a key role in fostering financial literacy across the institution and promoting best practices in financial reporting and accountability.

This is an incredible opportunity for a professional accounting expert looking for an opportunity to lead a financial services team committed to progressive and client centred financial accounting services. The successful candidate will bring a strong desire to support internal stakeholders in the interpretation and application of complex financial statements to foster informed decision making and drive best practice. The ideal candidate will have a professional accounting designation (CPA) supported by over five (5) years of progressive experience in professional accounting, including the preparation of consolidated financial statements. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The salary for this position is an ME 12, with a hiring range of $130,000 - $150,000 (salary is determined through knowledge, experience, and internal equity). The position is supplemented with a comprehensive total compensation and benefits package, including a pension plan.
