The student well-being director will be the leader of the Nena Amundson Wellness Program, and serve as the primary mental health information resource to the Luther community. The director will manage the relationship with external entities that support Luther students with physical and mental health needs. The director supervises a health promotion educator and coordinates care of students with a case manager, and partners with staff in student life and student success to ensure a sustainable circle of care for students. The director will meet one on one with students, and as needed will conduct direct patient care for intake, as a bridge for students seeking in-person or virtual integrated behavioral health.
This is an in-person position. Typical working hours are Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, however with a .92 appointment, there will be a modified schedule to accommodate the FTE allocation. The position has a shared on-call rotation responsibility during the academic year.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Student Meetings, Clinical Care, Outreach and Programming
- Shared responsibility for student cases, including walk-in and ongoing appointments to provide intake assessments and short-term individual counseling as a bridge for care.
- Develop and present (in coordination with assistant director and student life leadership) training workshops to peer leaders, general student populations, faculty, and staff.
- Create and facilitate ongoing groups and skills-based workshops (as needed).
- Coordinate student-athlete screenings, in coordination with Luther Clinic athletic training staff.
- Liaison with Center for Global Learning to support international students on health-related issues.
Campus Resource
- Campus expert on student mental health and well-being and crisis intervention.
- Member of Luther's Behavioral Intervention and Care Team.
- Collaborator on Luther’s emergency protocols.
- Consult with faculty and staff regarding student mental health issues.
- Collaborate with college personnel on the Medical Leave of Absence return process.
- Serve in the student life director pool for on-call weekend rotation, as a resource for on-call residence life staff and campus safety personnel.
- Member of the Threat Assessment Team, Title IX Team, Student Life Leadership Team, and other campus and Decorah committees / task forces, to be determined.
External Provider Relationships
- Lead college liaison to WinnMed Luther Clinic (on-campus clinic) that provides students with medical health services and integrated behavior health.
- Consults appropriately with Luther Clinic staff
- Clinical liaison with Luther’s telehealth and direct crisis connection service provider (Uwill).
- Develop and maintain appropriate referral relationships and service linkages with external community partners.
Staff Supervision
- Supervisor to the assistant director who coordinates health promotion, offers wellness coaching, and oversees peer health mentors.
Administrative
- Serve in a leadership and consultative role for Luther's use and implementation of a case management system (Pharos- Luther 360) to support students in a circle of care.
- Manage the Nena Amundson Wellness Program budget, and make strategic decisions on budget planning and programmatic initiatives.
- Coordinate campus assessments on student health and well-being, and make recommendations for programmatic changes.
- Coordination of required health-related protocols, reports, and training such as immunization forms, health forms, TB protocol, respiratory virus protocol, Edgar, Clery, Meningococcal Education Survey, and training on Title IX, alcohol/drug use, and hazing.
Professional Development
- Maintain licensure and seek continuing education opportunities.
- Research and apply best practices for the director of student well-being role and health promotion.
- Develop a collaborative relationship with like-colleagues in college health and counseling, such as through the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD), American College Health Association (ACHA), or higher education counseling, health service and/or wellness-related director listservs.

Education/Experience/Skills (supported by job duties):
Required:
- Master’s level psychologist or Master’s degree in clinical social work (LCSW) or Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT); Nurse Practitioner (NP or APRN).
- Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Iowa.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively and cooperatively on an interdisciplinary team in a college counseling center or other mental health agency.
- Student development process knowledge and experience with mental health support of college students. Ability to cultivate inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, employees, and friends of the college.
Preferred: Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
