Director/Instructor, Nurse Aide

Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Director/instructor in the Nurse Aid Program. The Director/Instructor of the Nurse Aide Program serves as the lead administrator responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating all instructional and operational aspects of the program. Key duties include managing faculty hiring, supervision, and professional development; overseeing curriculum development and accreditation compliance; coordinating program communications and community partnerships; managing budgets, equipment, and resources; scheduling courses and ensuring instructional quality across all class formats; and teaching a required instructional load. The director also participates in college committees, recruitment, continuing education activities, and DECHS initiatives, while maintaining accurate records, adhering to institutional policies, and ensuring consistent availability to students and the college through a flexible 40-hour work schedule.

(1)General Operations

  1. Plan, execute, and evaluate annual program goals, objectives, and related activities, based on the needs of the program, department, division, and College;
  2. Recommend, implement, and enforce academic policies and procedures, administrative rules and regulations, and other controls intended to maintain order and the highest standards of instruction;
  3. Maintain communications throughout the program by a system of regular meetings with program faculty and by means of written communications, utilization of committees, conferences, and other group management strategies;
  4. Maintain complete office records, as needed; course and student files, forms, schedules, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy and correctness of all data;
  5. Maintain supportive relations at all times with all other units and branches of the department, the division, and College and the designated clinical facility personnel, providing assistance to them in carrying out their respective functions and securing their cooperation for the program operations;
  6. Maintain a weekly work schedule designed to ensure proper supervision of program activities and regular attention to the administrative and instructional requirements of the position.

(2)Personnel Management

  1. Assign, supervise, and evaluate program faculty;
  2. Provide for the professional development needs of all program faculty;
  3. Maintain current job descriptions and other required personnel information;
  4. Assist in the interview process, recommend the appointment of part-time and/or adjunct faculty, and provide for orientation of new employees;
  5. Validate and document licensure status of nurse aide faculty annually. (RN - licensed in North Carolina.)

(3)Program Management

  1. Develop, review, revise, and evaluate program curriculum and instruction, facilitating innovation in curricular and instructional development;
  2. Develop, review, revise, and distribute course outlines and other curriculum information;
  3. Organize and maintain an effective advisory committee system in support of the program;
  4. Ensure that the program and curriculum offerings are in full compliance with the requirements for accreditation, certification, and other standards stipulated by appropriate external agencies;
  5. Develop and maintain productive relations with those businesses, industries, medical facilities, and other organizations in the community which are pertinent to the program and prospective graduates and with which the College may hold contracts, other agreements, or arrangements.

(4)Financial Management

  1. Prepare and administer the program budget, regularly monitoring status of expenditures, maintaining necessary records, and filing reports;
  2. Prepare and process contracts for part-time and adjunct faculty;
  3. Supervise, process, and maintain records of all leave requests, absentee reports, and related documentation for program faculty;
  4. Recommend equipment, supplies, materials, and physical facilities to meet program needs, prepare requisitions for appropriate and/or authorized purchases; maintain operational all program equipment and facilities, and provide inventory records and security for the same.

(5)Instructional Management and Supervision

  1. Prepare and process course offerings and class schedules which meet the requirements of the program and the needs of the program students, ensuring that the instructional resources of the program are being utilized efficiently and effectively and that the program's mission is being met;
  2. Supervise and evaluate the operation of all classes being conducted within the assigned function of the program, including visitations to day, evening, weekend, and off-campus classes, clinical practicums, and other instructional activities;
  3. Ensure that individual faculty schedules are developed and fulfilled within the program, including adequate provisions for teaching loads, office hours, committee work, and other instructional activities;
  4. Recommend and prepare requisitions for the provision of resources and services required for the effective delivery of instruction within the program;
  5. Otherwise ensure that accountable instruction is being provided within the program at all times: instructors are on time and prepared, all classes are properly covered, instruction is conducted as scheduled, and course and program requirements are being met.

(6)Other Duties

  1. Teach a minimum workload per semester required by the college, as determined by the needs of the program and as approved by the Dean of Health and wellness;
  2. Represent the program, the department, the division, or the College in the institutional assignments, community affairs, and professional activities, and uphold such involvement among program faculty;
  3. Provide appropriate assistance and support for the functions of Continuing Education, particularly the special training needs of business, industry, and allied health;
  4. Provide input on the development of new course offerings;
  5. Provide support and assistance to the College by educating on student recruitment and registration, admission requirements and procedures, orientation of new students, job placement of graduates, and other related activities;
  6. Participates in activities pertaining to the Durham Early College of Health Sciences including (DECHS) including recruitment events, summer camps, and planning;
  7. Assume other appropriate responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the department dean, chief academic officer, and/or president, in meeting the needs of the College.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. The program director must have a current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina.
  2. The program director must have a baccalaureate degree in nursing or related health field.

Work Experience

  1. The program director must have a minimum of two calendar years (4,000 hours) prior full-time employment as a registered nurse.
  2. The program director must have at least one of the following: completion of a course in teaching adults, experience in teaching adults, or experience in supervising nurse aides.
