Director, International Research

The Director, International Research provides leadership to strategically advance Western’s global research funding and research partnership portfolio with a focus on institution to institution and/or alliance of institutions models. The role will focus on identifying, developing, and supporting international research funded opportunities beyond North America, including major programs such as Horizon Europe and other global funding streams that will build a record of international partnerships (e.g., Radboud). The Director will lead a team focused on working collaboratively across Western including Western Research, Western International, Faculties, Interdisciplinary Units (e.g., Institutes, Academies) and with external partners to strengthen international research engagement, coordinate institutional efforts to establish and promote international research collaborations through grant applications, grant awards, and post-award activities with the goal to enhance Western’s global research impact and reputation. The role will ensure that international research development activities are aligned with Western’s strategic priorities and are delivered through effective, compliant, and client-focused processes.

Qualifications

Education:

• Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline
• Certificate in cultural competency and/or safety; EDID training is preferred
• Certificate in knowledge translation/mobilization would be an asset

Experience:

• 7 years’ experience in a research environment, including senior-level research development or administration
• Experience with international research funding programs and research partnerships such as preparing and writing high quality complex (e.g., consortium) research proposals with a track record of success
• Experience leading complex projects and strategic initiatives
• Experience managing staff and/or cross-functional teams
• Experience with international travel and brokering relationships with international partners
