Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary
Fairmont State University seeks an innovative and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Academic Library Services and Director of the Ruth Ann Musick Library. Reporting to the Provost's Office, the director provides strategic vision and administrative leadership for all academic library services, ensuring strong alignment with the university's mission of teaching, learning, and student success. This is a twelve-month administrative appointment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead planning, assessment, and continuous improvement of library programs and services
• Oversee daily operations
• Advocate for the library within the university and beyond
• Manage the library budget
• Supervise library faculty, staff, and student employees
• Guide the development and stewardship of print and electronic collections
• Work closely with faculty to advance information literacy, research support, and the integration of library resources into curricula and course design
• Remaining current with trends in academic librarianship and emerging technologies
• Represent the library on campus committees and in regional collaborations
• Coordinate library programming and outreach
• Foster a welcoming, student-centered environment in all library services and facilities that support faculty engagement and lifelong learning

Minimum Required Education
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program

Minimum Required Qualifications

• At least five years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of academic library operations, technologies, and systems such as WorldShare, OCLC, or EBSCO
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

• A second master's degree in a relevant academic discipline or a doctoral degree in Library and Information Science
• Experience leading change in library services or spaces (including renovations)
