Job Summary
Georgia Southern's Center for Advising, Retention & Completion (CARC) is seeking a collaborative, forward-thinking leader to guide institution-wide academic advising and advance student success through our model of comprehensive, coordinated, and differentiated care (CCD). In this role, you'll work alongside a dynamic student success leadership team to strengthen retention, accelerate degree completion, and ensure students receive the support they need at every stage of their academic journey. As a member of the Enrollment, Marketing, and Student Success division, the Director of CARC consistently exhibits the divisional values of service, collaboration, and excellence. This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Center for Advising, Retention & Completion (CARC) and functional advising teams, guiding advising teams and leaders to align with institutional goals for student success, retention, and graduation
- Evaluate and enhance onboarding and professional preparation processes for new advising staff, ensuring training models remain current, effective, and aligned with evolving institutional needs
- Direct and oversee advising teams through a continuous improvement framework that promotes consistency, ethical practice, and student-centered advising across all programs
- Serve as a senior liaison and advising subject-matter expert to University divisions, committees, and governance bodies, advancing integrated student success strategies and ensuring advising contributions support institutional effectiveness and accreditation expectations
- Design, implement, and sustain comprehensive advising assessment and evaluation processes consistent with NACADA and CAS Standards, and leverage data to inform strategic planning, resource allocation, and change management
- Partner with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and related units to develop and scale high-impact practices to improve retention, persistence, credit momentum, and completion, supporting institutional performance metrics and student success benchmarks
- Provide strategic oversight for advising contributions to New Student Orientation (SOAR) and Transition programs (Eagle Experience), shaped by national best practices and ensuring alignment with student success outcomes and institutional priorities
- Lead fiscal planning and budget oversight for CARC, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with strategic priorities, student demand, and institutional accountability measures
- Lead an annual, data-informed review of advising models, policies, and practices to ensure continued relevance and measurable impact on student progression, retention, and timely graduation
- Establish and oversee a comprehensive professional development strategy, including annual training initiatives for advising staff and key campus partners, to promote consistency, effectiveness, and innovation in advising practice
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Master's degree, to be completed prior to the date of hire
Required Experience
- Six or more (6+) years of advising/retention experience in a higher education setting
- Four or more (4+) years of leadership, supervisory, or human resources experience
- Three or more (3+) years of experience in curriculum development processes
- Three or more (3+) years of experience in advising program development or student program development
- Budgetary management experience

- Terminal degree
Preferred Experience
- Six or more (6+) years of leadership experience, including team leadership
- Experience in reaccreditation processes
- Experience with Slate, Banner, and DegreeWorks
Proposed Salary
$95,000 - $102,000
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
