Director of Alumni Relations

Position Title: Director of Alumni Relations

Department: Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations

Reports To: Vice President of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations

Overview: Saint Vincent College is seeking a dynamic, results-driven professional with a proven track record in relationship building, excellent communication skills, leadership abilities, and a mentorship mindset to serve as the Director of Alumni Relations.

Position Summary: The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for planning and implementing programs and projects that strategically engage alumni with Saint Vincent College. This role aims to foster strong relationships that enhance alumni affiliation with the College. The Director will encourage alumni involvement in student recruitment, career development and mentorship, campus committee service, and philanthropic support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with alumni.
  • Maintain regular communication with alumni through various channels, including personal visits, phone calls, emails, social media, print publications, and the Saint Vincent website.
  • Plan and execute alumni events, gatherings, homecomings, reunions, and programs to support development, admissions, and career development goals.
  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally to meet with alumni and strengthen relationships.
  • Support and staff Presidential fundraising and cultivation events, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp, Saint Vincent Football, Summer Theatre Gala, and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
  • Utilize the alumni database effectively to support alumni activities and programs, following appropriate guidelines and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to engage alumni as volunteer recruiters.
  • Collect and update alumni contact, biographical, and career information through surveys, projects, correspondence, and the website.
  • Cultivate and steward key stakeholders to increase contributions of time, talent, and treasure.
  • Provide leadership to the Alumni Council, including planning meetings, defining responsibilities, recruiting new members, and enhancing the Council's image.
  • Work closely with College leadership to develop guidelines for the alumni awards selection process.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for alumni relations.
  • Stay current on trends, benchmarks, and alumni programs or services to further engage and strengthen alumni connections to Saint Vincent College.
  • Supervise regular employees, student employees, and volunteers, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Education/Certification: Graduate of Saint Vincent College (preferred), Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Long-term ties to the College’s various constituencies. Three years of professional experience in alumni relations, public relations, or a related field. Two years of proven leadership experience.
  • Skills/Abilities: Strong relational and communication skills, including public speaking and writing; excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows and alumni database software. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and make strategic decisions to implement an alumni relations program.

Preferred:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree from Saint Vincent College in marketing, communication, public relations, business, or a related field.
  • Experience: Five years of professional experience, ideally in alumni relations or in development or higher education.
