Job Description
Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

Purpose of Position
The Director of Athletics and Student Engagement is responsible for creating, leading, and managing initiatives that promote student engagement within Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC). This role includes the supervision of all student activities and events as well as overseeing the athletic department and ensuring compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations and reporting requirements. The focus is on fostering an inclusive learning environment and coordinating college-wide strategies to enhance the student experience.
KSA’s Requirements
- An earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a concentration in higher education, organizational leadership, or related area
- Background in educational leadership
- Demonstrated cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence, influencing skills, and the ability to engage and build relationships with university constituencies and underrepresented communities;
- The ability to form coalitions and inspire others to take-action;
- Experience working directly with campus stakeholders including staff, students, and students’ families;
- The interpersonal strengths of an open-minded, strategic, and creative thinker and active listener who can mediate diverse opinions to address shared needs.
- Collaborative leadership style;
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in high impact community college practices related to enrollment management and student success strategies;
- Strategic planning and budget experience;
- Experience with NJCAA and NCAA athletic functions, rules, and policies; and
- Considerable knowledge of various athletic and sports programs, intramurals, extra-curricular activities, support for athletes, athletic rules, regulations and equipment, facilities, and budget preparation and maintenance requirements.
