The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) at the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) is seeking to recruit a Director of Business Development. The post holder will be responsible for developing, launching, and scaling an emerging stream of work that attributes changes in multidimensional poverty to outputs from investments. The post holder will work closely with OPHI’s Director, Executive Director, and leadership team to identify business opportunities, design and formalize the methodology for the emerging stream of work, develop supporting materials and institutional structures, and implement them with partners. The post holder will also be responsible for building capacity within the existing OPHI team to deliver activities directly related to the emerging stream of work.
The post holder will liaise with relevant external partners, which are likely to include government officials, development agencies, foundations, and private sector actors. The aim is to diversify OPHI’s partnerships and funding sources for more sustainable impact.
This role is offered on a full‑time basis for 24 months.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD. They will have excellent communication skills (both orally and in writing), including high-level presentations and the ability to keep diverse colleagues informed while coordinating an evolving set of activities. They will also have knowledge of multidimensional poverty measures, especially ones using the Alkire-Foster Method.
