Director of Collective Impact
Job Description
Montgomery College has an immediate opening for a full-time Director of Collective Impact. This is a grade 35, non-bargaining, exempt position. This position is located at Central Services, Rockville. Montgomery College (MC) promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging and inclusiveness.
This is a temporary position with benefits funded through June 30, 2026. Employment continuation beyond this point is contingent upon need and funding.
The Director of Collective Impact (Director) is an administrative position responsible for overseeing and facilitating the work of the Collective Impact Institute (CII) at Montgomery College.
The Director works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and continuity between the activities facilitated by the Collective Impact Institute and the College's Transformational Aspirations of Access, Completion, and Post-Completion Success, and strategic plan goals. The Director serves on internal committees and leads cross-functional strategic projects as directed by the Associate Vice President for Advancement and Community Engagement (ASVP).
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a conduit and connector between Montgomery College and the broader community on collective impact-related issues.
- Facilitate cross-functional dialogue and strategic projects that include internal and external stakeholders.
- In collaboration with the Collective Impact Advisory Group, convene cross-sector stakeholders to identify issues impacting the economic and social well-being of Montgomery County residents, and Montgomery College students.
- Facilitate research, discussion, and discernment of common ground related to significant challenges affecting the community, and the development of recommendations for broader systems change.
- Advise on the implementation of cross-sector initiatives, and monitor progress, where applicable.
- Support experiential learning and civic engagement opportunities within the College.
- Support the research, analysis, and publication of collective impact methods and outcomes.
- Write compelling funding proposals and partner with the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations on the creation and implementation of a fundraising strategy that supports collective impact activities.
- Partner with the ASVP for Marketing and Communications in the development and implementation of a marketing and communications plan for the Collective Impact Institute.
- Serve as a responsible fiscal steward for the Collective Impact Institute, and provide oversight of the Institute's budget.
- Supervise and mentor assigned staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of marketing and communications best practices.
- Thorough knowledge of and training in financial and strategic planning.
- Knowledge of college policies and procedures, goals and mission, and State and County operations and agencies as they relate to advancement and community engagement.
- Demonstrated experience in relationship and community building with key stakeholders within and outside of the College.
- Ability to effectively communicate, and comfort presenting to small, medium, and large groups.
- Strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving ability, and a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders. - Exceptional organizational, project management, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, set deadlines, and develop various strategies in directing, collaborating on, and coordinating projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively to create and execute a fundraising strategy that supports collective impact activities.
Ability to anticipate challenges and propose innovative solutions. - High proficiency in using Microsoft suite and other technologies to effectively and efficiently lead and carry out daily operations.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public administration, non-profit management, organizational leadership, or related discipline.
- Seven years of administrative experience leading cross-functional teams, facilitating strategic projects that include internal and external stakeholders, and community or public relations.
- Five years of progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience.
- Five years of experience writing funding proposals.
- The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree preferred.
- Prior experience leading collective impact and related work.
Hiring Range: $99,623 - $136,981 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $174,340.
