Job Description:
The Director of Student Success is a student-facing role within the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Student Success team. This position supports medical students and plays a key role in advancing the COM's commitment to student advocacy. The Director is responsible for enhancing communication around academic expectations, identifying and supporting students at risk, driving wellness initiatives, and promoting professional and academic development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide holistic support for student success throughout medical school, including preparation for national licensure exams and assistance with academic and non-academic challenges.
- Coach students and faculty on effective learning strategies, time management, and social-emotional development in collaboration with campus partners such as Learning Enhancement, Counseling, and Student Wellness.
- Guide students in developing remediation plans for course or licensure exam failures and present those plans to the Student Progress Committee.
- Lead a small cohort of medical students in a group advising format (learning communities).
- Contribute to the design and implementation of an academic coaching program that serves all COM students.
- Support student success from prematriculation through the preclinical curriculum.
- Gather and analyze student feedback; advocate for improvements in academic support and collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Curriculum to implement changes.
- Participate in the review and refinement of academic policies and practices.
- Maintain accurate records of student academic status and communicate progress and expectations clearly to students and relevant departments.
- Foster a culture of belonging and inclusivity for all students.
- Promote student well-being by connecting students with health and wellness resources and encouraging a culture of wellness across the college.
- A faculty appointment may be considered for candidates with qualifications to teach within one or more COM disciplines.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or coaching.
- Experience working with graduate or professional student populations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with relevant software and digital tools.
- Doctoral or terminal degree from an accredited institution (candidates who are ABD may be considered if graduation is anticipated within one year of start date).
- For physician candidates: eligibility for specialty or subspecialty board certification.
- Experience with or strong understanding of learning communities.
