Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development - Information Technology Programs

BMCC’s Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) delivers high-impact, non-credit courses and certificate programs designed to advance adult learners into in-demand careers. CEWD provides sector-focused career training, with a focus on Allied Health, through tuition-based courses and grant-funded initiatives leading to industry-recognized credentials and pathways to living-wage jobs.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, the Director of CEWD - Information Technology (IT) Programs provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for CEWD’s Information Technology workforce development portfolio, including apprenticeships and certificate programs aligned with industry demand. This position manages a complex and evolving ecosystem that includes tuition-revenue courses, government-funded contracts, private foundation grants, registered apprenticeships and industry partnerships. The Director will lead program innovation and success-enhancing existing certificate programs, creating new programming and partnerships, expanding employer engagement and apprenticeships, leveraging new opportunities such as Workforce Pell Grant, and developing stackable credentials - all grounded in labor market research, employer feedback, and industry trends. The Director oversees fiscal strategy for the IT portfolio, including budget development, grant proposals, compliance reporting, and revenue forecasting.
The Director will also lead the department’s Technology Advisory Board and manage the Registered Apprenticeship program. This role requires a thorough understanding of the Department of Labor and New York State apprenticeship regulations, as well as engagement with relevant trade associations and industry bodies.This role demands a growth mindset, strategic vision, and the ability to navigate complex budgets, maintain impeccable data integrity, create a culture of accountability, and cultivate strong internal and external partnerships-especially across New York City’s IT sector. A central responsibility is rigorous performance monitoring to ensure the division meets program outcomes and revenue targets.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Provide leadership and oversight for long-term goals and short-term operational plans to ensure high-quality course and program delivery. Oversee staff responsible for day-to-day operations to ensure performance outcomes are achieved.
- Oversee the development and alignment of a pipeline of IT programs and partnerships informed by labor market information (LMI) and employer feedback. Ensure programs offer stackable credentials and clearly defined career pathways leading to family-sustaining careers.
- Oversee and manage multi-source budgets (tuition, government contracts, and private grants), including strategic resource allocation, staffing models, and financial planning to support program sustainability and growth.
- Provide leadership and oversight for grant strategy, proposal development, and grant management. Ensure staff effectively manage grant lifecycles, meet performance outcomes, and comply with all reporting requirements and benchmarks.
- Set strategic direction for outreach, recruitment, and enrollment efforts in support of enrollment targets and tuition revenue goals. Oversee teams and partners responsible for executing outreach and enrollment activities.
- Lead strategy for expanding and sustaining partnerships with technology-sector employers. Oversee engagement efforts that support internships, apprenticeships, curriculum relevance, and employment outcomes for students and alumni.
- Cultivate a performance-based culture focused on data integrity, student success, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Provide leadership for collaboration with academic departments to advance Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), stackable credentials, and articulation agreements between non-credit and credit programs.
- Lead the Technology Advisory Board to ensure curricula remain aligned with current and emerging industry needs.
- Oversee the quality of instruction, apprenticeships, program records, and job readiness support. Drive programmatic improvement utilizing employer and student feedback. Ensure compliance with industry, state, and CUNY standards.
- Serve as a liaison within the college community and across the broader workforce development field and IT sector in NYC. Serve as primary point of contact for NYS Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, unions, and trade associations regarding apprenticeship matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree and eight years' related experience in workforce development and/or higher education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least five years of program management and supervisory experience
- Experience leading IT training programs and/or courses within a college or university setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the contemporary technology landscape, including computer networking, cybersecurity, and cloud computing technologies, as well as familiarity with relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Cisco, CompTIA Security+, CCNA). Working understanding of relevant programming, automation, and platform concepts (e.g., Python, Azure platforms, DevOps fundamentals) sufficient to guide curriculum development, evaluate instructional quality, engage employer partners, and oversee apprenticeship and certificate programs
- Knowledge of and direct experience with NYS Registered Apprenticeship programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives in a fast-paced environment across multiple sites and stakeholders
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build consensus between academic faculty, administrative staff, and corporate partners
- High level of comfort with data analytics, CRM systems, and budget management software to ensure data integrity

- Provides leadership for the development and implementation of new programs of study and ensures the coordination and implementation of program components.

- Develops funding proposals; solicits grant information and provides leadership and guidance in partnering with community and governmental agencies.
- Provide fiscal oversight and evaluation; develops strategic and operating plans; reports progress and results to management.
- Oversees a comprehensive marketing and public information program.
- Manages staff of the Continuing Education office.
- Represents Continuing Education within the College community and externally.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $91,878 - $122,202. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
