Job Description
The Director of Facility Operations provides comprehensive leadership and operational oversight for the ICCU Dome and other event venues his position is responsible for the full lifecycle of facility management - from day-to-day maintenance and custodial operations to large-scale event setup, execution, and teardown. The Director serves as a working supervisor, directly participating alongside staff while maintaining strategic oversight of operations, staffing, budgets, and facility systems. This role demands exceptional organizational acumen, technical knowledge of building systems, and the flexibility to work irregular hours in alignment with event calendar.
This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Event Operations & Management
- Plan, coordinate, and execute setup and teardown of events at ISU facilities,
- Develop and maintain detailed event setup and operational runbooks for event venues and event type, ensuring consistency and quality standards are met across all events.
- Serve as on-site operations lead for events, overseeing all logistical aspects from pre-event setup through post-event facility restoration.
- Maintain and manage event equipment inventory, including portable seating, tables, and staging components.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate all maintenance, custodial, and facility staff, including full-time employees, part-time personnel, student workers, and volunteers.
- Act as a working supervisor by directly participating in maintenance, setup, and custodial tasks while providing leadership direction and quality oversight to assigned staff.
- Establish operational priorities, assign work, and verify proper completion of all maintenance and event tasks; provide real-time direction to crews during event setup, execution, and teardown.
- Conduct regular performance reviews; provide coaching, corrective guidance, and professional development support to all supervised personnel.
Facility Maintenance & Building Systems
- Supervise and participate in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of all facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, and other building infrastructure.
- Maintain and service specialized equipment including forklifts, electronic scoreboards, floor scrubbing machines, sweeping machines, and other venue-specific equipment.
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all ICCU Dome systems.
- Conduct regular facility inspections pre- and post-event; identify and document deficiencies and ensure timely corrective action through the work order system.
Administrative & Financial Functions
- Maintain compliance with applicable fire codes, ADA accessibility requirements, building occupancy limits, NCAA facility standards, and all university policies.
- Assist with determining appropriate staffing levels for maintenance, custodial, and operations functions; oversee hiring, onboarding, and personnel management processes.
- Order and manage supplies, parts, and equipment inventory; maintain adequate stock levels while exercising sound fiscal stewardship.
Working Conditions: This position requires significant physical activity, including prolonged standing and walking, lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and operating heavy machinery. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, mechanical systems, cleaning agents, and other facility-related hazards. The work schedule will vary substantially based on the athletic and event calendar and will regularly include evenings, weekends, and university holidays. This position is based on campus in Pocatello, Idaho, and requires consistent in-person presence.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Facility/Construction Management, Engineering, Sports Administration, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in large-scale facility operations (public or university venues preferred).
Venue Operations: Two years experience in facility maintenance, operations, and turnaround execution within multi-purpose venues (e.g., domes, arenas, convention centers).
Team Leadership: Two years supervisory experience managing full-time and part-time maintenance, custodial, and operational personnel.
Technical Systems: Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression) and preventive maintenance programs.
Event Logistics: Experience managing large-scale event logistics, facility conversions (seating, flooring, staging), and coordination with external promoters and internal stakeholders.
Safety & Compliance: Knowledge of OSHA standards, building codes, and hazardous materials handling regulations.
Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of hire, relevant certifications or trade licenses (e.g., Boiler Operator, EPA Refrigerant Handler, Forklift Operator).
Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to support an active intercollegiate athletic event schedule.
Licensing: Valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate utility vehicles and heavy equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Sports Venue Operations: Experience in NCAA intercollegiate athletics or professional sports venue management.
Technical Systems: Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), digital work order software, and event/facility scheduling platforms.
Contract Management: Experience managing vendor contracts, third-party service agreements, and facility rental operations.
First Aid: Current CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
Additional Information

Salary will be between $75,000 and $79,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
