DIRECTOR OF FINANCE, Division of Comparative Medicine, provides strategic and operational leadership for the financial and business functions of MIT’s Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), one of the Institute’s largest service centers. Reporting to the Division Director, the role oversees financial operations supporting a $20+ million annual operating budget and research activities representing approximately 30% of MIT’s sponsored research conducted by 10% of its faculty. Key responsibilities include financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, monthly and year-end close processes, financial analysis, cost accounting, service-center rate setting, billing, procurement, and operational performance reporting.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree; a minimum of seven years of experience in accounting or finance; strong communication, analysis and organizational skills; ability to fully understand business processes and translate business requirements and regulations to functional and technical solutions; project management and organizational skills; ability to conduct complex financial analyses and projections for a service center; ability to learn and play a role in the implementation of changing technologies; knowledge of federal finance guidelines, and ability to learn MIT financial guidelines and federal animal research regulations; strong quantitative, verbal and written communication skills; and diplomacy and good judgment with confidential information/issues and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people. PREFERRED: MBA or similar degree conferring expertise in accounting or finance; experience with MIT’s financial, accounting, sponsored research; familiarity with the business aspects of an animal resource program; advanced level Excel skills; experience working with applications such as FileMaker Pro, Granite Elements and/or Topaz, QuickBase API, Cognos, BrioQuery, Sharepoint, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, and Dropbox.
