Position: Director of Grants | Full-Time EXEMPT position

Reports To: Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Summary
The Director of Grants is the College's lead professional for institutional grant development and is responsible for building a disciplined, comprehensive program to secure external funding from private foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other grantmaking organizations. The Director will maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities and will lead the development of competitive proposals that advance Louisburg College's strategic priorities.
Working closely with the President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Business Office, faculty, staff, and other campus leaders, the Director will translate institutional needs into fundable projects, manage proposal development from concept through submission, and coordinate required reporting and stewardship after awards are received. The successful candidate will be a strong researcher, persuasive writer, careful project manager, and dependable steward of deadlines and grant requirements.
Essential Functions
Grant Strategy and Prospect Development
- Develop and manage a comprehensive institutional grants strategy aligned with the College's strategic plan , academic priorities, and capital needs.
- Research and maintain an active pipeline of foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities, using a master grants calendar to track deadlines, eligibility, and request status.
- Monitor funding trends and build relationships with foundation, corporate, and government funders to strengthen alignment and future proposals.
Proposal Development and Submission
- Work with the President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, faculty, staff, and other campus leaders to identify projects ready for external grant funding.
- Lead the preperation and submission of letters of inquiry, concept papers, grant proposals, and required application materials, including compelling case statements, narratives, goals, and evaluation plans.
- Coordinate proposal budgets and financial documentation with the Business Office, and organize internal grant-writing teams with clear assignments and deadlines.
- Manage electronic grant portals, institutional profiles, and submission records.
Grant Administration, Reporting and Stewardship
- Maintain complete and accurate records of proposals, awards, declines, agreements, and funder contacts, and coordinate the handoff of funded grants to responsible departments with clearly documented terms and obligations.
- Maintain a reporting calender and coodinate required narrative, financial, and outcome reports with responsible departments.
- Review grant progress with campus leaders to flag compliance or deadline concerns early, and prepare stewardship communications to maintain funder relationships.
- Provide regular pipeline and award reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as the College's primary internal resource on grant readiness and proposal standards, coordinating required institutional approvals and ensuring proposals align with college policies and commitments.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics in accordance with funder and College requirements, and perform other grant development duties as assigned by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional research and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare persuasive, accurate, and well-organized grant proposals.
- Strong project-management skills, with the ability to interpret grant guidelines, budgets, and reporting requirements while managing multiple deadlines and contributors simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership, faculty, staff, finance personnel, and external funders.
- Experience using grants databases, application portals, CRM systems, and related rools, with sound judgement and the ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
Required Experience and Education
Minimum: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible experience in grant research, grant writing, proposal development, instituional funding, sponsored programs, nonprofit development, or a related field, including demonstrated experience preparing and submitting competitive grant proposals.
Preferred: Experience developing grants for a college, university, or other complex nonprofit organization, with demonstrated success securing foundation, corporate, or government funding. Experience coordinating multi-department proposals, grant budgets, and post-award reporting or compliance requirements. Knowledge of North Carolina funding sources; Master's degree or formal training in grant development, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
