Examples of Duties • Develop and maintain University environmental health and safety programs consistent with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. • Conduct workplace, environmental, fire/life-safety, and facility inspections; identify hazards and coordinate corrective actions. • Provide guidance regarding hazardous materials, chemical safety, workplace safety, and environmental concerns. • Support emergency planning, drills, evacuations, hazardous-material response, and Emergency Operations Center activities. • Investigate workplace accidents, safety complaints, environmental incidents, and other EHS-related occurrences. • Develop and coordinate required safety training and awareness programs for University employees and departments. • Develop and recommend EHS policies, procedures, standards, and risk-reduction measures. • Maintain required EHS records and prepare reports and recommendations for the Chief of Police and University leadership. • Serve as a liaison with fire departments, emergency services, regulatory agencies, and other external partners. Typical Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Safety, or a related field; equivalent education and relevant professional experience may be considered. • Professional experience in environmental health and safety, fire service, occupational safety, emergency management, regulatory compliance, or a related field. • Experience conducting inspections, investigations, risk assessments, or safety reviews. • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Supplemental Information • Working knowledge of environmental health, occupational safety, fire/life safety, emergency preparedness, and applicable OSHA/VOSH requirements. • Ability to identify hazards, recommend corrective measures, and work effectively across University departments and with emergency responders and regulatory agencies. • Relevant professional certifications in fire safety, occupational safety, environmental health, hazardous materials, or emergency management are preferred. • Valid driver’s license and ability to respond to significant campus emergencies outside normal business hours when necessary.
