Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as Director of Housing & Residential Life. This is a critical leadership position that oversees the strategic direction, daily operations, and community-building efforts of the College's residential program, which supports 300-350 students each semester. The Director fosters a living environment that promotes student well-being, academic success, equity, and belonging and is guided by student development theory, inclusive excellence, and trauma-informed practice.
This live-near role requires flexibility, participation in an on-call rotation, and availability during evenings and weekends to respond to student needs and campus emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Administration
- Oversee strategic planning and day-to-day operations for Housing & Residential Life.
- Supervise professional and student staff; provide training, performance management, and mentorship.
- Manage housing assignments, occupancy tracking, and billing in coordination with key partners.
- Collaborate with Finance and Enrollment to monitor budgets and support occupancy goals.
- Coordinate facilities maintenance, capital projects, and vendor partnerships.
- Act as liaison to the Housing Board and Faculty-Student Association; align services with student needs.
Student Support & Crisis Response
- Build a safe, welcoming, and inclusive residential experience.
- Administer residential conduct and support systems in collaboration with Public Safety and Student Conduct offices.
- Serve in the on-call rotation for crisis response and provide leadership during campus emergencies.
Assessment & Compliance
- Implement data-informed program improvements and conduct regular assessments of student engagement, retention, and satisfaction.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws and policies, including Title IX, ADA, and VAWA.
- Serve as a Title IX Investigator as appropriate and deliver prevention and compliance training for staff and students.
Campus Collaboration & Engagement
- Serve on cross-campus committees to support student success, diversity, and wellness.
- Work with Counseling, Academic Affairs, and the Accessibility Resource Office to provide wraparound student support.
- Develop graduate internship opportunities in student affairs and related fields.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in residential life, including staff supervision.
- Strong knowledge of housing operations, student conduct, facilities oversight, and vendor management.
- Proven budget development and management experience.
- Expertise in federal regulations including Title IX, Title VI, Title II (ADA), and VAWA.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience in trauma-informed student support and crisis management.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Additional Information:
The minimum annual salary for this position is $80,699. Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
