DESCRIPTION
Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a full-time, Director of MESA and STEM Outreach and Support.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, 12 month per year Educational Administrator position.

SALARY AND COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $99,737 - $123,656 annually. There are six annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President.

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.
Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twenty-one (21) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.
Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS OR CalSTRS Retirement.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Provides visionary leadership for the recruitment of and academic development and success of STEM students throughout the district. Provides day-to-day management and coordination of the MESA Program and activities associated with student success in STEM disciplines; duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Promotes STEM programs to underrepresented populations of students; develops and implements MESA recruitment activities, provides individualized information to students considering a STEM major.
- Develops MESA program implementation plans, evaluates the program, and recommends steps for improving delivery of services to students throughout the district.
- Regularly consults with the responsible administrator, the faculty sponsor, the MESA community college director, and student service administrators regarding the planning, implementation and improvement of the program.
- Reviews applications for MESA program admission from underrepresented target students and makes recommendations as appropriate; maintains contact with students through personal discussions, regular meetings, and other activities; maintains student files regarding current status and transfers.
- Plans program budgets; processes purchase orders, and monitors expenditures.
- Compiles data; prepares status reports, programmatic reports, financial reports, and grant proposals for the program, working with faculty, administrative support and others as needed
- Develops and supervises a tutoring and study program for the MESA Center including the recruitment and training of tutors (peer, volunteer, and community college sources), incorporating a mix of individual small and large group study activities. Works with department faculty to select the best available mathematics, science, and computer science tutors
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates activities related to STEM career exploration and advising, job orientations, academic advising, and student retention; recruits speakers.
- Meets regularly with students to monitor academic progress. Works with STEM faculty to identify and remove barriers to student success.
- Consults regularly with STEM faculty and actively seeks to involve them in MESA activities.
- Develops relationships with local industry in order to facilitate internship and career exploration opportunities.
- Works with STEM Faculty to develop research opportunities for MESA students. Develops summer academic enrichment and recruitment activities. Supports students in applying for grants, conferences, fellowships, internships, and other academic opportunities.
- Tracks MESA student success, persistence, and completion. Develops, plans, and coordinated activities to support success, retention and persistence.
- Coordinates delivery of transfer information for STEM students, including workshops, counseling, and campus visits.
- Maintains contact with and encourages the formation of a pipeline between middle and high school MESA programs and the Mendocino College MESA program.
- Coordinates STEM outreach activities throughout the district to K12 students.
- Attends orientation and training sessions or other activities to stay apprised of statewide MESA activities and opportunities, including MESA math workshops. Maintains communication with Chancellor's office project monitor.
- Coordinates with the Learning Center, Transfer Center, and other Student Services departments to best serve and recruit STEM students. Serves on campus committees as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains necessary programming to meet the 8 required MESA program objectives and 13 required program components.
- Provides direction to MESA staff.
- Performs other duties related to the position as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Office environment; subject to interruptions and distractions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.
EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATOR REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's Degree in a STEM discipline
OR
A Master's Degree in any discipline with a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the described educational administrative assignment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Meet the minimum qualifications for a STEM discipline.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
This classification requires personal transportation during the work assignment. Must possess a valid (Class C) California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record or ability to secure personal transportation during the work assignment.
