Position Summary:

Positioned within the Academic Programs Division, the Director provides leadership for eLearning (Distance Education) and Faculty Development Services, its resources, initiatives, services, and related training at the college. This includes online operations of the Learning Management System (LMS) and the online bookstore. The Director collaborates with instructional administrators to promote best practices in instructional delivery, to meet compliance standards, to develop eLearning courses and programs, to monitor and assess quality of eLearning courses, and to support instructional design, faculty development, and training. The Director is responsible for budget management and operational reports for the unit(s) assigned, and provides direct supervision to professional and administrative support staff assigned to the unit(s). This is a 12 month, full-time position that reports to the Associate Vice-President, Academic Support.

Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in instructional design, educational technology, computer science or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in online instruction or training.
  • Two (2) years demonstrated success providing services and/or support for Distance Education faculty and/or students.
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Three (3) years of system administration or technical support of an LMS;

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Masters degree in Education, Instructional Technologies, Distance Education, Instructional Design or a comparable field with 18 graduate hours in courses related to educational technologies.
  • Certified or credentialed in Distance Education program planning, design, and/or instruction.
  • Experience creating multimedia content for instruction or training.
  • Experience with system administrator interface of the Blackboard LMS and Canvas LMS.
  • Supervisory experience of academic support staff in post-secondary education.
  • Experience developing or managing Quality Matters certified courses.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proficient user of the instructor and/or system administrator interface of Blackboard or Canvas LMS or similar product. Proficient in the use of personal computers, digital media (audio and video), Web 2.0 tools and applications, and Microsoft Office application software. Demonstrated ability to design, create, and deliver instructional support materials using appropriate development tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Duty and Responsibility:
  1. In collaboration with College stakeholders, ensure unit services and offerings are in compliance with College policies, procedures, and standards; accreditation requirements and best practices; and state, regional, and federal requirements.
  2. Participate in strategic planning, data gathering, reporting, and evaluation of unit activities.
  3. Plan and offer professional development opportunities for faculty on instructional technology and topics related to course delivery and instructional systems supported by the unit.
  4. Remain current on methods of instruction, technology, and collaboration to enhance teaching and learning. Assist in identifying and developing standards for quality design that result in effective strategies and solutions.
  5. Serve the College by instructing one course per semester, based on credentials and academic needs (unless otherwise approved by the employees manager), and serving on College and State committees as required/approved by the employees manager.
