Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) is seeking a Director of Sponsored Projects to join our Finance division. In this leadership role, you will provide oversight of federal and other grants to the College, ensuring mastery of funding regulations and fiscal integrity. Review of candidates will begin on February 1st, and the position will remain open until filled.

Hiring Salary Range: $72,000 to $85,000.

What You Will Do:

As the Director, you will manage the full lifecycle of sponsored projects and lead the SPO department through the following duties:

  • Provide strategic direction for the Office of Sponsored Projects aligned with the College mission.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive institutional policies for all pre-award and post-award grant activities.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of two grant specialists and other assigned staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for federal, state, and private funding agencies, as well as auditors.
  • Exercise fiscal oversight of all grants to ensure expenditures are allowable and reasonable according to federal regulations.
  • Act as the College’s expert on grants management compliance, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Manage all grant-related institutional audits, including the annual Single Audit (A-133).
  • Oversee institutional compliance functions such as the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and conflict of interest policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in grants and contracts administration or research administration.
  • Two years of direct experience in post-award financial management for federal awards.
  • Two years of supervisory or leadership experience overseeing professional staff or functional areas.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • A valid state Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting.
  • Four or more years of grant administration experience in a higher education or non-profit environment.
  • Experience with federal grants specific to tribal organizations or community colleges, such as TCUP or Title III.
  • The ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
  • Knowledge of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though evening and weekend shifts may occasionally be required.
  • This is sedentary work performed in a typical office or administrative setting with no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • The role requires close visual acuity for computer work and data analysis, as well as repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
