Job Description:
The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. The Student Support Services (SSS) program is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The Director of Student Support Services is a grant funded position responsible for leadership of the Student Support Services (SSS) program and the services it provides. The Director is responsible for leading and monitoring implementation of the SSS program in alignment with the SSS Plan of Operation and guidelines to facilitate an environment that supports student retention and success and promote attainment of the project's performance objectives. The Director will work with staff, other departments, and external partners to develop students holistically and promote their academic achievement, persistence, completion, and transfer or career entry through a variety of educational programming. The Director is responsible for the recruitment, selection, professional development/training, and evaluation of all staff members.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervise and evaluate all Student Support Services staff and train staff on OCC policies, applicable federal regulations, participant confidentiality and FERPA standards, project objectives, services, and reporting and evaluation procedures.
- Lead the Student Support Services program participant identification and selection process.
- Advise a caseload of 40 student participants.
- Develop and lead Student Support Services participant orientation program.
- Provide participants with a variety of cultural experiences while at Onondaga Community College that will mirror experiences they will encounter after graduation.
- Work with Onondaga Community College's Financial Aid staff to award SSS grant aid.
- Coordinate and oversee that Student Support Services participants are receiving and participating in academic tutoring and study groups to achieve academic success.
- Provide participants financial aid assistance and financial literacy education, with assistance from Onondaga Community College Financial Aid staff.
- Lead programming and activities that foster a positive living-learning environment, college-wide collaborations, diversity, mutual respect, and student retention.
- Ensure effective departmental publications and communications are being circulated, presentations are being facilitated and parents are being contacted.
- Lead strategic planning initiatives activities to develop department and division goals with a focus on student success and retention.
- Develop an annual implementation schedule/plan in alignment with the program design and SSS guidelines.
- Develop assessment measures and oversee data collection processes to monitor student satisfaction, service utilization, and student outcomes for the annual evaluation and to meet reporting requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, support members, and community members for supported students.
- Develop and implement innovative summer engagement activities for new and prospective participants.
- Prepare regular reports on the Student Success Service program and operations as directed by the grant in accordance with U.S. Department of Education reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Oversee departmental completion of all reports required by SUNY, state, federal, county and/or any other regulatory agencies, as well as outside funders.
- Propose annual operating budget and oversee planning for expenditures.
- Oversee and approve expenditures in alignment with the approved budget, SSS guidelines, and applicable federal regulations and OCC policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as requested.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalency
- At least five years of experience working in higher education in any capacity (advising, grant programs, teaching, etc.,)
- Background in developing and implementing new programs and operational systems
- Experience working within diverse populations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience managing and/or supporting college success programs for disadvantaged students
- Demonstrated experience utilizing and building information management and reporting systems
- Community College professional experience
- Two years of supervisory (full-time, postgraduate) experience in higher education
- Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered
Additional Information:
Salary range is: $53,240 - $66,550, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
