Harvard Law School launched a new Writing Center in October 2024. The Writing Center supports HLS’s students in their development as writers and as critical and creative thinkers.
The Director of the Harvard Law School Writing Center serves as the learning expert and administrative head of the Center, and as a thought partner for School leadership in creating the Center’s vision, mission, and identity and communicating it to students and other internal stakeholders at HLS, as the Center continues to grow and evolve in its early days of operation. The Director creates, leads, implements, and manages the Center’s strategic initiatives and administrative operations.
- Oversee the overall strategy, management, and operations of the writing center, including ongoing evaluation, alongside school leadership, of the center’s strategy, priorities, and programming.
- Partner with HLS Library staff on developing support for students’ research and writing skill development.
- Hire, train, and supervise student fellows to support the Center’s programming and to provide 1:1 feedback to HLS students on their writing.
- Create and implement processes and best practices to facilitate students’ opportunities to improve their writing skills, including peer-review.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the Center by developing and maintaining methods of ongoing assessment and data collection processes to identify and develop future programming and services.
- Oversee all aspects of the Center’s web presence (create and maintain the Center’s website, social media, and online resources).
- Troubleshoot and solve operational and service delivery issues as they arise, including serving as point of contact for students and faculty engaged in Center programming and activities.
- Publicize Writing Center services and opportunities with HLS students.
- Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office in administration of HLS writing requirement and improvement of related processes.
- Support faculty in their implementation of the writing requirement, including peer review, and provide resources and guidance as needed.
