Director of the Language Center

About the Position

BiUH is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to establish and direct our new Language Center, including the existing departments of German and English language.

This is a unique opportunity to build a comprehensive language learning facility from the ground up and shape its vision, programs, and culture.

At the BiUH English is the language of instruction and German language is an integrated part of all curricula.

Key Responsibilities

• Align the existing language programs based on the curricula for multiple languages with focus on German, English and Chinese
• Integrate the existing staff into the concept and design and conduct interactive, cross-cultural learning environments
• Introduce modern and AI based methods and materials into the syllabi
• Develop and conduct teacher trainings and a system of quality insurance
• Develop suitable syllabi for engineering students
• Recruit, hire (in coordination with the presidium) and supervise qualified language instructors and staff
• Oversee budget planning and resource allocation
• Implement assessment methods to ensure program quality and student success
• Coordinate with university administration in regards of course planning, work load and community outreach
• Promote the Language Center within the university and broader community

Required Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, Language Education, or related field
• Excellent knowledge of methods and didactics of Teaching of foreign languages (own teaching experience in the field at a university is required), including digital and AI tools
• Minimum 5 years of experience in language program administration
• Proven track record in curriculum development and program assessment
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Fluency in English and German
• Candidates with experience establishing new academic programs or centers, grant writing and fundraising, Chinese language proficiency, and international administrative experience will be highly preferred
