Director of the Research Support Center (RSC)
Job Description
The Director of the Research Support Center is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the Weitzman School's Research Support Center (RSC), working in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research (ADR). The Director provides guidance to Weitzman faculty regarding policies, procedures, systems, and databases associated with grant submission, implementation, and reporting; provides training on Penn's grants management systems (including ERA and RIS); and works closely with faculty to develop budgets for proposals ensuring adherence to funders' guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the RSC, including strategic direction and operations, in collaboration with the ADR; develop annual goals, the School's research agenda, and a long-term strategic plan.
- Provide guidance on proposal and budget development; review calls for proposals; prepare and load proposals for submission; prepare, negotiate, and execute contracts; provide training on grants systems; advise on appropriate contract vehicles.
- Develop, oversee, promote, and enforce RSC policies and procedures for research and consulting activities.
- Ensure compliance of financial transactions with sponsor, School, and University policies; monitor tax policies; review portfolios; prepare reports.
- Partner with the Associate Dean of Research and Director of Finance to enhance research capabilities and increase indirect cost recovery.
- Represent the Weitzman School at University-wide meetings.
- Supervise and mentor grants managers and coordinators.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a changing environment independently or as part of a team.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
- Three to five years in pre and post-award research administration.
- Knowledge of software like Excel, Word, Business Objects, Oracle systems.
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures.

Pay Range
$91,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annual Rate
