Georgia College & State University (GCSU) is the state's designated public liberal arts university. The Director of University Events provides strategic leadership and expertise in the planning and execution of high-level institutional events, both on and off campus, sponsored by the president or other senior members of university leadership. This position is responsible for conceptualizing, budgeting, coordinating, and directing signature events while managing University Events staff and operations. The Director will coordinate with senior leadership, academic units, and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director supervises the University Events and student staff.

Responsibilities

  • Operations Management (25%): Provides strategic leadership for high-level events.
  • Supervision (15%): Supervises and trains the Assistant Director and student staff; provides guidance to other divisions.
  • Budget Management (15%): Manages budgets for University Events, develops annual requests, and ensures fiscal responsibility.
  • Other (5%): Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Event Planning (40%): Oversees planning and execution of major events, serves as contact for the President's office, coordinates logistics, and supports campus departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in event planning, managing large-scale events, budget management, and working with food/catering entities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education, certifications like CSEP or CMP, event management software, and supervising staff.

  • Abilities: Manage teams, multitask, make decisions under pressure, build relationships, and adapt creatively.
  • Knowledge: Leadership and budget monitoring.
  • Skills: Self-motivated, excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
